Best by 0504: Pour is light clear brown with a thin off white head...smell is sweet with earth fruits, some yeasty wood ande earthy dirt notes...nice aroma...taste is very sweet and prune juicish first...somewhat watery mouthfeel...some bitter hop notes coming out in the finish with a nice building bitterness...this was great before and after the flavor, that is the appearance is good, aroma good, finish good...taste and palate complexity not so much...

Bottle. Brown beer with an off-white head. Light malt aroma with some yeast. Malt and candi sugar flavor - too sweet. Some background fig fruitiness, but not much going on.

Stinky, sulphury, alcohol aroma. Dry, musky beer, moderately tart, moderately bitter. Finishes off lightly sweet with a woody bitterness. I’m wondering if I’ve gotten a bad bottle or if I’ve got palate shock and the Affligem Dubbel was so much better. That’s saying something, since I thought the Affligem was weak. Good Belgian bottle, fair label, dark brown. Small bottle, in the Val-Dieu Christmas Gift Pack.

Brown reddish colour with an off white head. Faintly roasted malty aroma with hints of a caramel sweetness. Sweet malty flavor with dark fruit notes.

(Bottle 33) Very dark brown-red appearance. Looks pretty with lacings. Unharmonious flavor. Too sweet and with a slightly sour note. I even taste some metal. Sticky palate.

(Bottle 33 cl) Very dark chestnut brown with a tint of red and a handsome and thick, off-white head. Roasted, caramelish aroma. Sweetish flavours of roasted malt. OK, but not exactly a great beer. 111105

Pours from the bottle a gorgeous coppery brown with a creamy medium light beige head and nice lacing. Fantastic, earthy pungent aromas of fruit and leaves. Sliky smooth flavors of caramel, cocoa and roasted nuts finish with just a subtle hint of alcohol. Flavors and complexity change pleasantly til the end. Very nice.
