Fantastic, earthy pungent aromas of fruit and leaves. Sliky smooth flavors of caramel, cocoa and roasted nuts finish with just a subtle hint of alcohol. Flavors and complexity change pleasantly til the end. Very nice. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 26, 2005 Nice brown body with a reasonalbe head and some nice lacing. Initially a very stale aroma like a basement. Some fruits like berry and faint raisins came out though. Some licorice and caramel in the flavor as well. The beer feels off balance, and this musty basement taste has come out some in the flavor. I wanna say this is better than 3/5 but I feel like I’m drinking liquid dust with a nice Belgian beer. Pours a transparent amber-brown with a nice fluffy off-white head. Pleasant mild aroma of malt and dark fruits. Taste is very mild and smooth. Mild dark fruit flavor. Alcohol is well hidden. Nice palate. Worth picking up if you see it on the shelf. Smooth drinking. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 11, 2005 Pours dark brown with a thick and lasting tan head. Aroma is extremely subtle in that you can get hints of chocolate and caramel in one sniff and the next might have light fruit notes while the next has some hay and spice. Slightly nutty, chocolatey, fruity, a hint of caramel but all very subtle. Solid beer. puzzl (2660), New York, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 26, 2005 I really love these beers that taste and smell like my aunt’s Split Pea soup. When I get these things, the aroma is just so overwhelming I can’t really smell anything else, but I dig, because that soup is always the highlight if Thanksgiving at her place. I guess that narrows down the aroma to being peppery, rather raw, not quite vegetably but still a kind of natural, home grown but not quite fruit flavor... it’s real good, and goes down nice and easy. Clear ruby color, big foamy head, lace. Aroma has leather, hints of horse planket, oak, dry hay and strawberry. Foamy, carbonated mouthfeel. Dry, slightly metallic, some grassy hops. A bit alcohol burn in the finish, more warming alcohol in the aftertaste. Quite hard dubbel, not sweet at all. Aroma is more complex than straightforward flavor. Bart (1670), Brussels, Belgium
