Pours brown with a medium soft tan head. Nose is sweet. Candy sugar, sweetened malts, and a hint of caramel or toffee. The flavor is sweet as well with more of the malt coming forth, along with sugar and more caramel. The 8% alcohol does not seem very present to me. There is almost a sweet-sour finish. Good beer!

Deep brown color, cream colored head. Aroma was quite malty with some caramel, bread and raisin. Flavor was sweet and malty with some breadlike undertones. Medium body, somewhat short finish. Was okay.

Bottle Conditioned. From BeersOfEurope. BBE Feb 2004. Very dark and murky reddish brown with a thin layer of soft cream coloured foam. Malt bread and rasin aroma with a slight hint of spice and a suggestion of alcohol. Quite pleasant. Medium body, fairly full up front thinning quickly and with an aggressive tingle. Soft, bready malt flavours just on the sweet side of neutral. Quite pleasant, but difficult to get at because of the aggressive tingle. Letting it sit for a while.

Very dark color; giant, rocky head. Sweet malt aroma, chemicals, cookies. Original flavor for an Abbey Dubbel: malt, dry roasted malt, light coffee, light liquorice. The final is sweeter and simple, just caramel and liquorice, not enough hop.

750 ml bottle for Thanksgiving 2003. Chestnut brown color with a moderate head. Understated aroma, sweet and malty, but plain. Big, frothy mouthfeel, though not especially tingling with the carbonation. I found it hard to identify either spice or fruit, instead just the adequate but unexceptional caramel sweetness. Mediocre in a Belgian sort of way.

Bottle. A tea brown color with a laced tan head and a spicy (clove, ginger), malt and sugar aroma. The alcohol is noticeable as the beer warms and adds a slightly harsh medicinal finish.

Nose of caramel, bitter fruit. Sweet and creamy smooth with hints of mocha, raisin, gingerbread. Nice.

Draught at The Rover, Gothenburg. Dark chestnut colour with an off-white head. A fine, yeasty, hoppy flavour. Carpenter shop(?) Rather flat and thin and too sweet. Chocolate in the flavour.
