wyzzywyz22 (294), Wirral, Merseyside, England Aug 7, 2008 Bottle, Belgian Belly, Manchester. A re-visit to a saddeningly average brew which flatters to deceive. Poured a dark purpley brown colour with a lively rocky beige head. Aroma had some dark fruit, chocolate and yeast, and II’m thinking we’re good to go with a cracker here...Sadly the wheels started to fall off after the first swig. Overtly sweet and too heavily carbonated was my overwhelming impression. The heavy yeast and sugar notes aren’t endearing so this isn’t one I’d re visit for a further try. Has a pleasant aroma, taste is rather smokey, almost like a whisky.
An enjoyable beer, but as an belgian beer enthusiast I expected more. BoBoChamp (618), Gent, Belgium Jul 22, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex, cloudy, balanced, good head, good brew JustinFromAL (53), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jul 20, 2008 500ml bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown. Huge off-white head that lasts a long time. Aroma is very sweet to me, you can pick up the alcohol on this one. Nice body on this beer, definitely reminiscent of brandy. This is a very nice ale, not what I was expecting when I saw a "brown" abbey ale on the bottle. anders37 (2563), Malmö, Sweden Jul 9, 2008 Draught @ DTE, Copenhagen. Pours a dark amber brown color with a small off-white head. Sweet malty and spicy aroma with some yeasty hints. Sweet malty and slightly spicy yeasty flavor with some hints of dark fruit. Has a sweetish malty spicy finish.
