Dark brown pour with thick light tan head. Aroma is weak, maybe citrus and yeast (perhaps the problem is I’m tasting in my basement where my girlfriend’s cat resides). Taste is malty sweet and bready, with licorice and figs/plums; crisp slightly sour finish. Lots of stuff going on, wonderful creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden. This is an excellent beer, although certainly not for everyone.

ZBF 08. Pours a clear dark brown color with brown highlights and a thin tan head. The aroma betrays a liquorous beer, liquorice wafts in the nose, sweetness lingers while chocolate and dark malt come out shyly of their hiding place. The flavor has the same sweet chocolate and liquorice combo with a dark, roasty malt structure, it’s dry in the end. The body is light with a liquorous texture and medium carbonation. Very good.

2008-03-01. Dark brown body with a medium tan head. (3+). Sweet, alcoholic aroma with sweet sugary notes, dry alcohol. Similar flavours with dark fruity accents, sugary sweet malt notes. (7+) Smooth average to medium palate. Nice.

09/2008 drink by date on cork. Mahogany color with a thin head. Regal smell of alcohol, plums, green apples. Medium/full bodied. Good taste of brown malts pit fruits with a spicy earthy yeastiness. A great fire side sipper. 937

Feb. 2007 - Beer poured dark brown, nice head and outstanding lacing. Rich strong aroma of dark fruits and spices. Flavor was predominantly dark fruits...prunes and figs noticeable. Some spiciness and lots of alcohol sweetness. Bordering on too sweet. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Nice beer.

Much thanks to Sycamore for bringing two of these to our table! Lovely and malty with strong caramel tones. Really nice grand cru, one of my favorite styles.

Dark brown pour with a minimal beige head. Big Belgian nose with yeasty, bready notes ... very malty. Flavor is rich and malty with an interesting nearly sour tang ... almost a touch of Flanders Red. Nice body and mouthfeel. Great.
