thewolf (5623), Kolding, Denmark Jul 18, 2007 Bottle, 75cl @ YNWA. Pours a golden dark mahogany with a small, creamy and slightly grey-beige head. There is a stunning level of lacing in this beer! Powerful aroma of dried fruits (raisins and plums) along with a dose of dark chocolate. Lightly oily mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet with a weak background of chocolate. Then a lot of burnt sugar appears, and it mixes well with the lingering alcohol at the end. There is a touch of tartness at the end. daniele (1640), Italy Jul 18, 2007 scura buona schiuma persistente al naso molto fruttato come una passata concentrata di frutta in bocca un buon corpo ben bilanciata con un retrogusto tendente al secco Wim (1278), Turnhout, Belgium Jul 8, 2007 Updated: Oct 7, 2007dark brown coloured body with a medium off white head a roasted malty aroma a dark fruity taste and a bitter herby finich WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jun 15, 2007 2005 vintage Val-Dieu Winter from a 750ml bottle @ Hamiltons UCSD Beer Club Belgian Tasting. The beer lpours dark amber with a small thin head. The aroma is is sweet with notes of candied sugar. The taste is sweet with a bit of light carbonation. Amazingly drinkable, the alcohol is completly undetectable, I could drink a bottle and only realize when I stood up. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jun 3, 2007 AKA Val Dieu Winter. It’s June now, so what better to drink than a Belgian Winter beer? Cloudy dark reddish brown, nearly black with a moderate head with great lacing and retention. Spicy aroma that’s dominated by darker fruits. Sugar and caramel is here too. Medium bodied, sweet sugary finish with some alcohol present at every step. Lotsa good quad comparisons here, but the trappists do it better. Jerre (1755), Waregem, Belgium Jun 3, 2007 Taste yesterday from tap @ KBW Vichte. Aroma was complex: little spicy, sweet end fruity. Dark brown to black color, with very lightbrown head. Medium at full bodied. Taste, malty, dark fruits with caramel, much alcohol, with dry finish spice into the aftertaste.
mlist55 (210), media, Pennsylvania, USA May 24, 2007 A bitter woody nose, ripe red plums and chocolate, deep garnet, pours a tiny firm toffee head. Faint pit fruit flavour, almonds also, quite nutty too, bitter and dry. slang (392), Columbia, South Carolina, USA May 22, 2007 750. 06/09?. Pours dark w/ minimal head. Alcohol fumes mix w/ raw sugar. Complex yet muddled palate, still very interesting. The spices are there in the beginning but it ends w/ the yeasty sweet alcoholic Belgian vibe. It’s nice.
