Commercial Description:
The new masterpiece from the Val-Dieu brewery. A very complex and full-bodied beer with a long aftertaste. The brewmaster advices to cellar the beer for a year for it to unfold its full potential.

Sampled with stegosaurus. Pours a dark bronze with a small white head. Aroma of fruits, yeast, roasted malts and some spices. Flavor was very smooth with roasted malts, figs, nutmeg, raisins and alcohol. A good belgian strong

Very dark brown with a frothy head, comes across with the expected qualities of a solid grand cru. A rich aroma with a full malt profile, tangy dried fruits, and some slight toffee and spice. But despite being very solid and enjoyable, this one’s just not on a par with the top shelf entries like Gouden Carolus. I’d drink it again, and it’s reasonably priced, but I’d give it a B.

Bottle sampled with Beerded one. pours dark bronze/black with red hue and a small white head. Aroma of fruit, belgian yeast and spices, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet, very smooth, fruit, spices, light bready notes. Good beer.

Came highly recommended from the local retailer, almost over-hyped. Very nice appearance with a rich brown color and lasting white head. Nice flavor but does not coat the mouth like a quad. Palate was a little fruity but could not put my finger on the dominant flavor. Very enjoyable overall and will enjoy again soon.

Bottle. Pours out a dark brown color with a thick brown head on it. Smell is full of plums, fruits, yeast, and sugars. Taste is sweet and smooth, and somewhat strong at first, but it lessens after the bottle is half done (shock there). Good level of carbonation, interesting, but pales in comparison to Chimay, Ommegang, and Rochefort 8. Good stuff from an easy to find brewery.

Poured a nice murky brown color with some sedimenties that came out at the end of the pour. The head was nice, yet only respectable within the style, nothing outstanding. Lacing was good. The aroma was gentle, soft, nice meld of dark fruits, light yeast, some breadiness, and a candi sugar type sweetness. The flavor was ever so smooth, nice dark and light fruit activity (plums, cherries, yum), light cocoa, gentle spicing, all finishing with a touch of yeasty bready bitterness to finish pretty clean. Mouthfeel was lightly carbonated and gentle and smooth.
