Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Mar 25, 2007 Deep amber, nice small but pillowy head, and great lacing. Floaties at the very end. Aroma is nice and yeast oriented, with plenty of fresh bread presence. Flavor was far more complex than I imagined it would be. Loads more of crusty bread, but also a nice underpinning of apricot and plum preserves, with a drying floral finish. Alcohol notes as well. I think this is badly underrated. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Mar 24, 2007 Pours a very dark ruby with a very light white head. heavy dark fruit and grapes in the nose. Some dark sweet malts, and almost a dark red wine smell. One of my favorite winter brews. The alcohol is very present in this beer is the first thing I notice. taste is quite similar to the nose, very sweet but dark fruits and grapes dominate the flavor characters. alcohol is present the whole way through. I’m not a huge fan of this brewery normally, but this is by far their best beer and I love this one. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Mar 16, 2007 Ain’t nothing wrong with a strong dark Belgian brew that smells a bit grapey. I get a vinous slightly yeasty aroma with a bit of day old fruit salad smell. I like day old fruit salad. The flavor also has some grapey wine like things going on. Alcohol is well hidden. This is good but it just isn’t very complex. Enjoyable but not memorable. and grapey as hell. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Mar 5, 2007 750ml bottle. Dark cola brown colored body with a tan head. Sweet nose of candied bananas and light spice, flavor is basically the same, oversweet candied bananas notes, some funky clove, and a light spiciness from the yeast, and some red wine or grape juice flavors as well. I wanted something similar to Abbaye des Rocs Grande Cru, but unfortunately this wasn’t it. Bart (1625), Vosselaar, Belgium Mar 5, 2007 Dark brown coloured, with a medium off-white head. Roasted malty aroma, some dark fruity touches. Full sweet herby palate. Finish is bitter, herby and touches of malts. Good one. kapusta (84), Dover, Delaware, USA Mar 4, 2007 As strange as it sounds, the taste that I remember most with this would be grapes. Nice bready-sweet and yeasty spice flavor. I enjoyed this from a 750ml, so there was a slight cork flavor that added to the enjoyment. Nice wallop of alcohol, but I did not notice it until the glass was empty. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Mar 2, 2007 Bottle. Almost black wit red and brown tints and a beige foam.. Aromas are fruity, yeasty and malty with cookie dough and chocolate. Mellow berries, too. Flavours are malty with smooth chocolate. Spicy, yeasty and bready with liquourice and herbal notes. Alchohol on the finish with a good foaming palate. Very good. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Feb 26, 2007 Brown dark color. Couldn’t identify the smell in the head, but tart fruit in the body. Sweet with some nice hops as well.
