Commercial Description:
The new masterpiece from the Val-Dieu brewery. A very complex and full-bodied beer with a long aftertaste. The brewmaster advices to cellar the beer for a year for it to unfold its full potential.

Deep amber, nice small but pillowy head, and great lacing. Floaties at the very end. Aroma is nice and yeast oriented, with plenty of fresh bread presence. Flavor was far more complex than I imagined it would be. Loads more of crusty bread, but also a nice underpinning of apricot and plum preserves, with a drying floral finish. Alcohol notes as well. I think this is badly underrated.

Brown dark color. Couldn’t identify the smell in the head, but tart fruit in the body. Sweet with some nice hops as well.

Spicy with sweet fruity notes of plum and bread pudding. Dark brown with quickly fading tan head. More bread pudding in the flavor with a good kick of rum tasting warming alcohol.

Pours very dark brown with a deep red hue and a small beige head. The aroma has dark toffee, raisins, dates, prunes, alcohol and spices. Medium / full body with semi-sharp carbonation that is in-check and mainly shows in moderation at the finish. The flavor starts with rich brown sugar that isn’t overly sweet along with raisins, earthy yeast, anise and nicely toasted malt. The finish has some phenolic spice and pepper. Big thumbs up for this great BSA.

Draught: Poured a dark chocolate brown color with a beige creamy head. Sweet candy aroma. The taste is a sweet dark malt flavor finishes dry and rich with chocolate caramel. Hints of nuts as it warmed up.

O.K. Vail-Dieu Winter, this is rating #10 for you, you’re out on your own now. The Tampa Trader, Matta sent this to me. Thanks Matt! Deep Deep Ruby brown color. Crystal clear and supporting an off-white creamy head that laces with the best of them. The aroma is malty, brown sugar and dried fruits with a vinous complexity. Thick and syrupy, smooth and coating. Sweetness that is strong, just shy of cloying, but tempered with some acidity and spice. Not the complexity and depth of the Trappists, but a good Belgian character to it just the same. A good winter sipper that warms things up nicely.
