Cloudy dark reddish brown, nearly black with a moderate head with great lacing and retention. Spicy aroma that’s dominated by darker fruits. Sugar and caramel is here too. Medium bodied, sweet sugary finish with some alcohol present at every step. Lotsa good quad comparisons here, but the trappists do it better. AmEricanbrew (1925), Wynot, Wyoming, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Pours a very dark ruby with a very light white head. heavy dark fruit and grapes in the nose. Some dark sweet malts, and almost a dark red wine smell. One of my favorite winter brews. The alcohol is very present in this beer is the first thing I notice. taste is quite similar to the nose, very sweet but dark fruits and grapes dominate the flavor characters. alcohol is present the whole way through. I’m not a huge fan of this brewery normally, but this is by far their best beer and I love this one.
