Commercial Description:
The new masterpiece from the Val-Dieu brewery. A very complex and full-bodied beer with a long aftertaste. The brewmaster advices to cellar the beer for a year for it to unfold its full potential.

As strange as it sounds, the taste that I remember most with this would be grapes. Nice bready-sweet and yeasty spice flavor. I enjoyed this from a 750ml, so there was a slight cork flavor that added to the enjoyment. Nice wallop of alcohol, but I did not notice it until the glass was empty.

On tap at Brouwers - Seattle, WA USA A fantastic beer. Malty with spices, it’s Belgium yeasty aroma. There is a lot going on as far as flavor - raisins, plums. A very elegant beer indeed and not at all heavy.

Color of dark motor oil with a light tan head. Pleasant dark fruit and malt nose. Sweet, overripe fruit flavor, but with some bite. Less alcohol warmth than expected and little aftertaste. A very enjoyable beer that I think others who don’t generally drink craft beers might like.

Bottled. Pours a very dark brownish color. Sweet fruity aroma. A hint of alcohol is present. Very rich tasting. Slightly sweet dark fruit predominate this ale up front. Somewhat roasty. A hint of a grape-like flavor. Figs and maybe a hint of tobacco. Quite spicy. Alcohol is not really noticable, other that it’s warming effect. A good dark BSA. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle. Rich aromas of dark malt and dark fruits. Near opaque brown color with a substantial beige/tan head. Full in body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is darkly malty (not toasted) and the fruits and spice are very tasty. A little heat interjects, but does not really bother the experience. Finish is mildly sweet, but some hop seems to be there for balance.

Bottle. Rich dark mahogony with a big dark cream colored head. Malty, spicy, earthy, slight raisin aroma. Raisin, rich malt, caramel flavor with slight earthy/yeasty backing. Medium-full body. Slight alcohol warming, but in background. Lingering caramel, rasin/fig, and yeast.

Bottle sampled on 1/18/07: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a nicely-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel malt and bready Belgian yeast with a touch of raisiny complexity. Body starts sweet and malty with nice, full-bready texture toward a drier, earthy sweet finish. A nice Belgian strong ale.

Bottle. Almost black wit red and brown tints and a beige foam.. Aromas are fruity, yeasty and malty with cookie dough and chocolate. Mellow berries, too. Flavours are malty with smooth chocolate. Spicy, yeasty and bready with liquourice and herbal notes. Alchohol on the finish with a good foaming palate. Very good.
