Jul 31, 2008 sampler @ brewery - jet black with thin tan head; kind of disappointed that they only had one "dark" brew, though this didn’t exactly inspire much either; aromas mostly of oats and roasted malts; body is thin and flavor is lacking; not very impressed

Jun 3, 2008 Tasted at Noogfest. Has coffee and slight anise flavor and aroma. a little dry for the bitterness.

May 28, 2008 Tasted at the May Northern California Beer Tasting. This stout pours a deep black color from the tap at the brewpub. Medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee and roasty. A medium bodied stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. It’s a large stout without being over the top. Nice balance. Touch of dark fruit. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and somewhat roasty.

Apr 20, 2008 Opaque almost black. Roasty aroma with some chocolate, maybe ash or smoke. Flavor is more roast, some sweetness of cocoa, chocolate, a little smoke or ash. Lingering roasted dryness and some smoke. Creamy body. quite good.
