12oz bottle. Poured a deeper orangish color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of fruitiness, yeasty, musty, dark fruits, and caramel. Tastes of dark fruits (lots of raisins and prunes), caramel, brown sugar, and toffee. Medium alcohol burn in the finish. Light lacing left on the glass.

Unlabeled bottle from Aspidites. Kind of juicy, old, oxidized flavor, yeasty but a little hot. Vegetal. Good bready notes in the aroma and decent complexity. Really just a bit too big for me, though. I think if this were toned down a fair bit it would be great.

Another bomber brought by EDA to JJPM’s summer gathering 07. Pours a deep rich dark amber almsot a ruby red with a thin head. Aroma is tons of dark fruity esters, but doestnt become solvent like or harsh- good caramel sweetness with some molasses, tons of raisin, toffee and slight rummy alcohol hints. Some green apple acetaldehyde in the flavor along with the fruty esters and sweetness. In the end it gets a bit metallic and somewhat astringent- cherry pit harshness.

Noogfest Thanks to Beerguy101 for bringing this one to share! Pours with a fleeting white head over a dark amber body. Slight malt aroma with alcohol, raisins, prunes, brown sugar, and honey. Flavor follows the aroma. Smooth and full bodied.

Bottle courtesy of aspidites sampled on 9/15/07: Pours a transparent amber copper with a wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of toasty, doughy Belgian malt and some dark caramel sweetness. Body starts fairly full and caramely malty sweet with good light fruity complexity and a touch of clove spice. Enjoyable and well-balanced toward a doughy sweet, slightly warming finish. A nice quadrupel.

(Bottle) Pours a clear deep copper body with a spare off-white head. Aroma of tangerine/apricot, candi sugar, and dried mandarin orange. Flavor of orange, peaches, watered down rum, caramel, some honey, and golden raisins with a warming alcohol presence.

Bottle shared with Olivier and David on 9/30/07, thanks to KrausenJockey!
This one really suffered from not being bottle conditioned and was otherwise a fine (if perhaps somewhat too sweet) beer. The carbonation was too low, allowing the sweetness to overbear, the texture became slightly syrupy/sugary and it didnt have that Belgian yeast flare that bottle conditioned bottles develop, leaving it a bit too starkly clean. That said, there’s no need to crucify someone for the serving method and no doubt they would bottle condition this in an ideal world.
The body did seem a little thinned out, however, and with a candy sugar-like feel and flavor to it. Seemed that that adjunct was attenuated very easily, but some caramel maltiness left behind seems a bit unfinished.
A robust copper-gold in color, reminding me of La Trappe Quad, this one had a small white head that quickly dissipated to a ring of white bubbles, leaving little lacing.
As usual, there were absolutely no flaws, nor was the beer fuselic. Pleasant for what it was, with interesting notes of toffee, marzipan and nuts, but would love to see the carbonation increased and tightened up.
