Commercial Description:
Russian Imperial Stout: Imperial Stouts derive their name from the Imperial court of Katherine the Great who commissioned this beer style to be brewed by Thrale’s brewery in London, England for export to Russia. Our Imperial Stout lives up to that, and then some; with copious amounts of dark roasted malts that translate into a wonderfully rich and complex beer with notes of ripe dark fruit, black currant, cocoa, and black licorice. Enjoy a snifter of this luxurious beverage after dinner with a fine cigar or your favorite chocolate dessert. If you’re feeling adventurous, try it with a nice wedge of your stinkiest blue cheese and a plate of fresh raw oysters, you won’t be disappointed. Approximately 9.5% ABV.

Sampled on 9/25/2009. This Russian Imperial Stout pours an eclipse black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate and coffee with some dark fruits. A medium bodied Russian Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee. The hops are earthy and floral. Touch of vanilla, wood and dark fruit. A nice solid stout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Poured a very dark brown color with a thin tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some notes of ash and alcohol. The malty flavor was lighter on the roast. Some chalky notes and alcohol finish. The body was on the light side.
