Beershine (1010), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Apr 27, 2008 Hazy dark reddish color. Lovely nuanced fruity esters that change with every sniff: from guava to grapefruit to orange rind to pine. Yet the flavors come out too earthy and dull, muddled. That and the sticky finish let me down a little but it’s still a good brew. ogglethorp (713), Ohio, USA Apr 25, 2008 Shared by Dawn at the Cleveland tasting, huge thanks! Pours a copper color with a pillowy white head. Aroma is fresh floral hops, citrus, pine. Flavor is grapefruit, orange, mango, pineapple, pine. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation finished bitter and refreshing. This is one delicious brew! mreusch (380), Olathe, Kansas, USA Apr 21, 2008 Updated: Apr 22, 2008Bomber, with a big thank you to Davecooks - you rock! Pours a clear amber with a two finger creamy tan head, great lacing. Aroma is a nice harmony of grapefruit, pine/resin, citrus and orange peel. The flavor brings the hop bite home, with more pine/resin, grapefruit and citrus, only slightly balanced against a caramel backbone that is present but not significant in any way; the focus is clearly on the hop profile. The alcohol is nowhere to be found, and the term "dangerously drinkable" definitely comes into mind. I was a bit worried that hype had gotten to this one, but it delivers on my expectations and then some. Very well done, and hope wider bottling comes for all of VB’s beers very soon. Thanks again Dave! riversideAK (1334), Shoreline, Washington, USA Apr 20, 2008 Copper colored hazy beer with a great lasting head. Big grapefruit, citrus, pine aroma. Amazingly fruity. Nice big hoppy IIPA. Lots of fruit ranging from sharp grapefruit to softer citrus to some tropical fruits. Nice caramel malt backbone, but this seems to me like a hopcentric brew. Insanely drinkable at 10%. I drank 64 oz of this in a sitting once. Freaking amazing. tertons (100), East Providence, Rhode Island, Tibet Apr 14, 2008 Thanks Davecooks. A great IPA that stands up well with the best and makes me believe that this will stand, from a rating perspective, as others get a sample of this great balance of intense hops with a delicious malt and caramel backbone. Smooth and mellow and for 10 percent abv that blends perfectly with a colossal pine and citrus aroma.
