Commercial Description:
Überhoppy Imperial IPA: Hops, hops glorious hops! There is no mistaking what this beer is; soft and delicate it is not. Überhoppy is meant to completely overwhelm you with resinous, floral, citrus and herbal hops barely balanced by a huge amount of malt that keeps the Lupulin onslaught from resulting in complete palate destruction. If you do not like hops, Überhoppy is NOT the beer for you, do us all a favor and either give this beer to someone with the intestinal fortitude to appreciate it or put it down and walk away. Überhoppy is brewed with 10 different hop varieties and a complete and utter disregard for common logic or sanity. Please consume this beer as soon as possible to ensure maximum hop freshness. Approximately 9.5% ABV.

RBSG09 on tap at the grand tasting. Pours golden amber with a nice white froth. Aroma is hugely resinous but with some citrus and floral hops as well. Caramel malt flavor base with herbal hop resin, orange, grapefruit, and pine sap. A little boozy sharpness. Pretty damn good.

Bottle. THanks to DSG. Pours a clear orange color with a small white head. Has a grassy hoppy bitter aroma with some hints of caramel. Malty hoppy bitter grassy flavor with hints of grapefruit. Has a long hoppy bitter grapefruit finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

Draught at the RBSG grand tasting. Copper with a small white head. Big spicy, fruity and floral hop aroma with some sweet caramel and alcohol. There is a nice orange and mint touch that I really like, but there is so much going on hop-wise that it comes and goes. Big and boozy but with a nice balance of caramel and bitter, peppery hops. Sweet, but with a huge bitterness to balance. There is a ridiculous amount of hops in this, but no single quality really stands out. I guess that is what ten different verieties will do. I can feel the 11.27%, but this is still way more drinkable than you would think. Very nice stuff. Why does Valley have to be way out in Stockton?

On tap at the RBSG Grand Tasting @ Drakes......poured a golden/Amber with a large foamy off white head. Nose of grapefruit, hops, pine. Taste was malty with caramel. Kind of oily finish, very nice aftertaste. Most excellent.

Tap at the second half of RBSG’s Grand Tasting 09. Was very excited about this for a year and while a great beer I was actually disappointed. Nose is very vaporous and dry hoppage with unripe melon. Flavor is a notch or two down from PtY - not that being big is the point, but I certainly get a sense of multiple varietals and fruit undertones in Pliny, whereas here I get just a pretty big DIPA: the malt bill actually stands out more for me and I have had this twice at a week old. Peppery, cheddar sharp, tasty, and probably smoother than any beer of the ’TIPA’ style.

Mmmmm. Copper pour with a good sized white head. Aroma is strong, syrupy thick malt backed up with a massive hop kick. Flavor was up front pine, floral and citrus, but the malt came through a bit and lent some nice honey sweetness to back it up. Finishes very bitter, yet balanced. I’d OD on this stuff if I lived anywhere near the brewery.

Bottle at Craig’s bit tasting, Edinburgh, 21-03-09 thanks to Craig for hosting and for getting hold of some great beers. Pours copper coloured with a white head. Really fresh hoppy nose, makes me think a little of Sierra Nevada or Stone can’t recall which, but very fresh green hops with some nice maltiness as well. The taste is wonderfully zingy hops, hops, hops but its bathed in a wonderfully indulgent sweetness, yes its a touch syrupy but yum its lovely and is a perfect counterbalance to those hops. A really likeable beer that I can only criticise a little for the alcohol just showing a little too much throughout. A8 A5 F8 P4 OV16 4.1
