Commercial Description:
Überhoppy Imperial IPA: Hops, hops glorious hops! There is no mistaking what this beer is; soft and delicate it is not. Überhoppy is meant to completely overwhelm you with resinous, floral, citrus and herbal hops barely balanced by a huge amount of malt that keeps the Lupulin onslaught from resulting in complete palate destruction. If you do not like hops, Überhoppy is NOT the beer for you, do us all a favor and either give this beer to someone with the intestinal fortitude to appreciate it or put it down and walk away. Überhoppy is brewed with 10 different hop varieties and a complete and utter disregard for common logic or sanity. Please consume this beer as soon as possible to ensure maximum hop freshness. Approximately 9.5% ABV.

On tap at VB. One thing I can say about this IIPA is that it is balanced. The malt is caramel in flavor, and the hop profile just tastes green! It is like drinking hop juice. Lots of florals in this one, but not that acidic (doesn’t seem to be high in Alpha Hops.) The aftertaste is a nice, grassy note that sicks around for a while. Excellent IPA that really isn’t like any other I’ve had. It almost has a cask conditioned flavor to it. The only downside was that it had a strong alcohol burn to it - this was more so fresh. After some oxidization from "growler conditioning" for an hour (the ride home) some of the fire died down.

Tap @ Bistro - Hayward: Deep copper color, murky with a white head. Tangy hop aroma with a perfumy hop flavor, followed by a thick aftertaste with a weird grainy and malty flavor as well. Good to the last drop.

RBSG 2008. Big hop bomb, but one of those that is done right. Loads of floral hop flavor, the bitterness is there, but restrained. Tangerine flavors blend with the chewy caramel base, finishing with resiny grapefruit. Very well put together.

RBSG 08. Sampled from a growler that AgentSteve was carrying around towards the end of the evening. Some carbonation with a small bit of white lacing. Deep amber color. Huge aroma of pine tree and hop resin with loads of caramel malt. Very malty base with sappy grapefruit spice in the flavor. Huge body on this one, you can really bite into it. Nearly endless bitter and spicy hops finish. Apparently it was a few months old, I bet its epic when tasted fresh.

Thanks to aspidites for this - although someone else poured it. Hazy brown with a lacing tan head. Aroma is caramel and dense pinewood hoppy with a minor note of grapefruit. Flavour is dense hoppy and thick malty - sweet, solid brew. Very flavourful indeed. Grapefruity and solid bitter into the finish. Fantastic flavour.

Shared at the Grand Tasting, RBSG. Was it just me or does Uberhoppy have a serious malt backbone, don’t get me wrong it had some nice hoppy bitterness, but very sweet and creamy.

From a bottle shared at the Grand Tasting during RBSG 2008. Mild hops with a very nice malty creaminess to it. I was really bummed to find out this was the only bottle. It was a great treat to try it.

Brewmaster Steve tapped a keg at the brewery so I could try this, and was I impressed! I know it was about 4 months old, but it was outstanding. The pour was darker than any IIPA I had ever seen, like toasted wood with a thin cream colored head. The nose was very pine, floral and grass hops, but a sweet caramel malt backbone was strongly present. The flavor was just as the nose. Extremely well balanced. Smooth on the palate and dangerously drinkable. I’m glad I finally got to try it, I just wish I didn’t have to drive home after! RERATE: The next batch is hotter and more pine. Also more of a medium amber color. Like the previous one way better, but this was the first batch on the new system. Still awesome, but not the Uber of old!
