pantanap (793), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 14, 2008 22oz bottle from Steve. thanks my man....pours very dark and pretty close to balck with a thin wispy off white head and soapy around the edges.....aroma was def interesting. not sure what i was expecting but it hit me with a dose of sour vinegar, lactic sourness combined with some coffee beans, interesting but not sure that it’s for me..... more of the same in the flavor with a huge burst of sourness throughtout. this one certainly had a lot of life in it but the amalgamation of flavors made it difficult for me to enjoy. glad to try it though. i think it’s a love it or hate it with this one.
BrianK (74), New Jersey, USA Jul 28, 2008 Stone Sourfest. Nice concept but this one doesn’t really work. Tastes like a sour stout. Interesting though. fordest (1778), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jul 28, 2008 Sampled at the Stone Sour Fest. Wow, I really liked this one. Second favorite of the day. I fully enjoyed the aromas and the flavors. I had just finished talking to the brewer before I had one of these. He told me about the chipotle pepper aromas and flavors. I wonder if I would have picked them out. I think I would have. It was really there. A very interesting flavor to go with the sour. Very very good. DaSilky1 (1627), San Diego, California, USA Jul 22, 2008 Gothic pour, castanza like froth. Burnt, crispy, smoky, roasty nose. Flavors are predominately sour with heavy coffee and roasty notes as well. Somewhat overdone with all the huge flavors going on in this beer...the sourness is overpowering but so is the the huge smokey/char and roasty malt flavors...its all rather cumbersome...could probably do without the sour here. Did i just say that???? padrefan98 (645), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Jul 22, 2008 Sampled at the Second Anual Stone Sour Festival on 7/20/2008. This is a wierd sour ale. A whole bunch going on in this one. wetherel (1067), Carlsbad, California, USA Jul 21, 2008 On tap at Stone’s Sour Fest 2008. Black. Dark tan head. Malty aroma. Mild tart zing. Nice aroma some accurately described as chipotle pepper. I think that’s some comination of sour and smokey roasted grains.
