jimbowood (750), Athens, Georgia, USA Jun 20, 2008 bottle from rodger. Huge chipotle, coffee, chocolate, lemon, sour apple, and bourbon aroma. Best, most complex aroma to date. So many elements involved here. Unlike others, I really like this one and think, despite all its elements, it really works. A new take on a sour ale.
SamGamgee (646), Isla Vista, California, USA Nov 29, 2008 Draught at the Bistro. Black darkness with a voluptuous head. Tart, lemon and acidic coffee aroma. Dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and lots of straight sourness in the flavor. Medium bodied, seemed lighter than 8%. Interesting flavor combination, but I’m still not sure if I think it really works. Regardless, it executes what it sets out to do quite well. fidel (312), Livermore, California, USA Nov 20, 2008 2008 Bistro Barrel Aged Fest, dark brown, sour, green apples, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, little caramel. kmweaver (2273), Nicaragua Oct 31, 2008 Draft, courtesy of KrausenJockey. Thanks!! Pours a dark, chocolate-brown color with patchy lacing. Loads of dark chocolate, red fruits, and cocoa in the aroma. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy wet malts, tart cherries, and sweet malt / chewy character; nicely tart presence coupled to a chewy dense cocoa and bitter chocolate presence. Lengthy finish: cocoa and bitter citrus; light tartness; nicely dry. BrianK (84), New Jersey, USA Jul 28, 2008 Stone Sourfest. Nice concept but this one doesn’t really work. Tastes like a sour stout. Interesting though. fordest (1857), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jul 28, 2008 Sampled at the Stone Sour Fest. Wow, I really liked this one. Second favorite of the day. I fully enjoyed the aromas and the flavors. I had just finished talking to the brewer before I had one of these. He told me about the chipotle pepper aromas and flavors. I wonder if I would have picked them out. I think I would have. It was really there. A very interesting flavor to go with the sour. Very very good.
