Fairly indistinct nose, with some heavy choc and light lactic notes (just a ghost of the modest sour I expect from Belgian stouts). Body is rich and silky, with a nice chalk element in the finish, almost like a good Baltic porter. Some very faint traces of fruit in the flavor, but this is mostly chocolate milk, and doesn’t at all feel like a 9% Belgian. Suffice it to say, chocolate milk is plenty good on its own.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 15, 2009 750 ml bottle that I received as a gift from my brother Robert. Pours a hazy dark brown that allows light to pass along the edges with a moderate-large off-white head that lasted until the last sip and left nearly complete lace. There are lots of carbonation bubbles continuously rising to the surface. Pleasant aroma of malt, chocolate, and a bit of Belgian yeast. The flavor is very similar with malt, chocolate, Belgian yeast and just a bit of alcohol. A bit prickly on the palate from the active carbonation while at the same time fairly smooth in body. Enjoyable, thanks Rob! BückDich (4854), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 4, 2009 Bottle: Pours a dark brown/black color with a nice tan head that’s very retentive. The nose is very "belgiany" with a little raisin and tart bready malts, a nice roasty carob note and lots of fruit. The flavor is sweet and yeasty with a nice light roasty quality. A bit of juniper in the end and a light alcohol note. Great stout for 9%! Alex420 (48), Rome, Italy

A good liquor feel and quite complex in flavors a dry and slight sweet and bitter finish. Very nice and pleasant stout. bubbleflubber (898), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2009 Pours almost black, the deepest mahogany, into the glass, with ruby-hued fringes.... an initial tan head diminishes to nothing... The nose is of fresh blueberries mixed with some roasted grains. The flavors are of blueberries, dark esters, mixed chocolates, a hint of alcohol and musty grains. The finish is of roasted woody notes, blueberries, and a touch of fusel oils. The mouthfeel is medium with somewhat lively carbonation levels, and the texture has hidden dark fruit complexities. It has a relatively smooth quaff on the palate, but feels a bit boozy. It’s an interesting ABV for a traditional stout, lacking the palate complexity of a similar Impy offering. Not bad, just an interesting take on the style.
