Bottle: Pours a dark brown/black color with a nice tan head that’s very retentive. The nose is very "belgiany" with a little raisin and tart bready malts, a nice roasty carob note and lots of fruit. The flavor is sweet and yeasty with a nice light roasty quality. A bit of juniper in the end and a light alcohol note. Great stout for 9%!

bottle coutesy of fata, thanks! pretty good beer, but i just can’t quite get past the belgian yeast and the sour flavor of it with the stout. the body is also a little thin for me. does have nice flavors and is very drinkable, but not what i was looking for per se.

Bourbon, lactose, chocolate and a little bit of roasted malt. Body is thinner than most domestic stouts, really nice change of pace, still packs lots of flavor.

Very dark brown with a white bubbly head. Lacey. Aroma some roast, and very mild yeast. The taste does not live up,but it is complex. Medium mouthfeel. Some sugar, roast, yeast in the taste. A shwartzbier with some Belgian yeast and sugar. A little sourness in finish.

750 ml bottle that I received as a gift from my brother Robert. Pours a hazy dark brown that allows light to pass along the edges with a moderate-large off-white head that lasted until the last sip and left nearly complete lace. There are lots of carbonation bubbles continuously rising to the surface. Pleasant aroma of malt, chocolate, and a bit of Belgian yeast. The flavor is very similar with malt, chocolate, Belgian yeast and just a bit of alcohol. A bit prickly on the palate from the active carbonation while at the same time fairly smooth in body. Enjoyable, thanks Rob!

750ml from Once Upon a Time, Richmond. Thick like a malted, straight from the soda jerk. Fairly indistinct nose, with some heavy choc and light lactic notes (just a ghost of the modest sour I expect from Belgian stouts). Body is rich and silky, with a nice chalk element in the finish, almost like a good Baltic porter. Some very faint traces of fruit in the flavor, but this is mostly chocolate milk, and doesn’t at all feel like a 9% Belgian. Suffice it to say, chocolate milk is plenty good on its own.
