Smell is mostly caramel, beer is highly carbonated with lots of malt, some coffee and a subtle complexity. Very enjoyable, though nothing jaw-dropping.

Color and opacity is similar to a porter, but the big carbonation bubbles betray its lager roots. Pours a big head which disappears quickly. Nice roasted malt aroma. Flavor is good, the roasted malt overwhelms any subtle flavors this beer may have. Finishes with almost no after taste, but leaves a slight oily like film in mouth. Will buy again.

On tap at Howard Johnson (by the Commonwealth pool). Very dark pour with a weak tan head that is frothy, but fades quickly. Aroma is roasted malts, molasses. Taste is mild cofeee, chocolate, and molasses. Finish is quite smooth, this beer is quite enjoyable.

Not the best beer I’ve had from this brewery, but still drinkable. Poured a very dark amber colour (like a Coke!) along with an almost brown foamy head. Aroma was a teeny tiny bit of malt matched with some light hopping. Taste was rather more malty and also had some coffee in there as well.

Pours Black with a tan head that quickly fades. Aroma is molasses and coffee, with a slight bit of anise. Mouth feel has a slight, smooth chocolate richness, with flavours of molasses, dried plum and mocha

6/6/08 On draught at the Stickey Wicket, Victoria, BC. Aroma is very low with lightly roasted sweet malt dominating. Appearance is dark brown with a tan head. Flavor is roast malt forward with no hops; very simple. Mouthfeel is medium-high bodied with a very low carb texture. Overall, nothing objectionable, but not enough flavor.

Sweet, malty nose. Dark body. Head is foamy at first but flattens too soon. Smooth. Bready entry. Full of malt. Slightly sweet finish: a little too sweet for me. Mild. Drinkable and light-bodied.
