Oakes (7030), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 13, 2000 Updated: Aug 25, 2005Dark chestnut brown colour. Aroma is somewhat light, but with hints of breadcrust and a touch of molasses. The flavour has some hints of darker Munich malts, a little bit of earthiness. Body is somewhat watery, especially for the style. Sweet, slightly toffeeish finish. I would like to see more body and a more complex dark malt character - it’s just not as rich and assertive as a good dunkel should be. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 12, 2004 Meaty, lactic, licorice aroma. Clear, dark brown with thin off-white ring of head. Lactic, meaty flavour. Smooth but thick mouthfeel. Lifeless and still. Bottle (sampled at Mondial 2004). jcwattsrugger (4087), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Oct 16, 2007 on tap @ Pacific Shore-pours a retaining creamy tan head and dark brown color with red tint. Aroma is dark malt, hint of dark fruit. Taste is dark malt-chocolate, secondary light hops bite, dark fruit. OK carbonation. JoeMcPhee (3899), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Feb 13, 2004 Dark brown-black with a short tan-coloured head. Deliciously strong smell of toasted grain, chocolate, and bitter hops. Taste starts as delicious caramel, roasted malt, and hops, but quickly transitions into a long, unpleasant tinny finish. Not very well balanced, but would be fantastic without the metallic end on finish. beerguy101 (3542), Newark, California, USA Oct 8, 2002 Dark black color, medium head. Roasted malts, slightly sweet. Nicely hopped, good balance. Mouthfeel is full and round. Smooth taste. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
