Lots of sweet cherries and wood. Ligh vanilla notes. Supercarbonated with a very thick, tangy finish. kempicus (350), Wellington, New Zealand Aug 8, 2008 Tried thanks to poperinge! Pours a dark red hue with a fluff pink head. iron on the nose with a hint of cherry, full cherry stone flavour with a background tartness that is extremely dry, a pleasure to dink! Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 3, 2008 (Draught at Den Tatoerede Enke, Copenhagen, 25 July 2008) Ruby red colour with frothy, pinkish head. Fruity, slightly sourish nose with distinct cherry notes. Fruity, sourish taste with distinct cherry flavours and hints of almonds. Some sweetness, but well within balance. Very nice and drinkable. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottled. Brilliant red pour with a pink fizzy head. There is a strong, sweet component in this with apple pie and light oak. Very lively body behind the sweetness makes this almost taste like a soda. There is a nice underlying sourness though that makes this a bit more quenching and balanced. An easy drinker that would be a good introduction to sour beer. And, unlike its cousin Duchesse de Bourgone, this one is actually good on tap as well as bottled. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jul 28, 2008 Sampled at the Stone Sour Fest. More sweet than sour, but some tartness really came through. Lots and lots of cherry on the aromas and the flavors. Cherry to the end. I mean it. Really. Pretty tasty. Especially if you like Cherry. Beaver (587), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jul 26, 2008 11.2 oz bottle, best by 8/14/09. Pours a clear deep red with a fizzy rose head that retains well and leaves some big bubbled lacing.
The aroma is acidic and tart cherries, wood, yeast and some sweet candy sugar.
The flavor is sweet acidic cherries with a strong tart sour tang to it, a bit of funky yeast and wood show up as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and syrupy with a bit of sharp carbonation.
Overall, a fun sour ale - one of the better ones I’ve had. The sweetness and tartness are a bit strong, but I liked this quite a bit.
