From a bottle at NOTF ’07. Pours a reddish amber with no head. Nose and flavor are both sweet and sour, both with a fresh cherry base. Slightly oaky, sweet, and sour finish. Pretty good, but not my favorite cup of sour tea.

With its swiftly dissipating head, the Verhaeghe kriekenbier is a bit of a letdown in the looks department. Body is likewise thin. However, the flavor profile is nice: a good dose of sour to wake up the mouth without falling too far along the sweet spectrum. Not super aromatic but enough so that you know what you are getting yourself into when you lift up the glass. I’d drink it again.

On tap @ Ølbaren. Quite tart and fruity with a little sourness bite. Pours reddish brown with a small head. Cherries and vinegar notes - a bit too sweet though.

Bottle, ’t Brugse Beertje. Smells like Rodenbach: tarty, cherry, and a backnote of funk. Clear red, off-pink head. Light body, cherry sweetness that fades quickly into a simple tart finish. Not bad, not great.

On tap at Ølbaren. Pours red with a diminishing head. Sweet and sour with aromas of cherry, vinegar and a hint of glue. Fruity finish. A Japanese bloke had a sip of my glass and he told me it reminded him a lot of soy sauce?!?

Vinegar on the nose. Reddish brown pour with a thick light rose colored head. Very sour cherry and rice taste. Woody apple core finish.

25 cl. bottle. Pours a clear deep amber-red colour with a fizzy short lasting head. Sour cherry aroma with a slight rubber touch, alcohol and slight wood. The flavour is sweet and quite sour with cherries, malt, bit woody and a touch of rubber. Sour cherry dry finish.

[595-20070908] 11.2floz @ Sourfest 2007 (Buffalo, NY, w/ rudolf, frylock, IPFreely, jerc, swoopjones). Roasted yeast and medium alcohol aroma with not-nice burnt caramel. Hazy, dark red amber body with a medium-lasting foamy white head and some bits. Sweet fruity malt caramel flavour with a bit of cherry base. Medium body. Tastes quite nice despite the aroma.
