This beer is a startling deep, dark, clear ruby red with a large, short-lived pale rose-colored head and light lacing. The aroma is full of tasty things: sour cherries, pastry, sour apples, rose hips and maybe a hint of five-spice powder way in the back. The flavor is sweet with a lightly bitter, slightly coppery finish. The carbonation is lively and the body is light, bubbly and refreshing. A new sweet favorite! | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 16, 2004 This is beyond a doubt, one of the finest beers to include fruit that I have ever tasted and I am suprised that the ratings aren’t much higher. Pours with a lovely ruby color that positively sparkles; a little pink head that crackles like rice crispy treats ... plenty of carbonation here. The aroma is pure choke cherries with tons of sourness. Nice acridity and sourness that puckers. The fruit flavor creates a nice balance. A lingering malt flavor on the tongue. Positively brilliant. tallmatt67 (99), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 29, 2003 (bottled) Sour cherry & wet wood dominates the aroma of this brilliantly clear beautiful brownish red beer. Strongly-carbonated effervescence lifts the strongly sour tartness. Seriously sweet with a lovely funky must. There's a taste like old sweet rotting wood smells- I know that sounds terrible, but it's a sweet, earthy aroma that reminds me of the woods in springtime. Smokey bacon hints? I'd buy that. Long, lingering tart & suprisingly dry finish. The complexity is terrific. tiggmtl (4310), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 7, 2004 Assertive cherries, decently acidic sourness, oak apparent in the nose. Dark red with thin, pink tinged head that recedes to ring. Cookies, cooked balsamic vinegar, oak make appearances but cherries are the feature in this one. Tart at the finish. Body is creamy with decent carbonation - just enough to bring out the flavours. Bottle (Sample at Mondial 2004). marcus (1853), Sacramento, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 27, 2004 Pours with a frothy head that disappears rather quickly, and elicits a fruity aroma. There is a full cherry flavor with noticeable carbonation. I found the combination of strong kriek and sour brown flavors to be unique and quite satisfying. Overall, an outstanding beer. hughie (3051), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England

Cheese and sour cherry aroma. Vinegary sourness, but not overpowering as it blends wonderfully with the sweetness of the real cherries. Superb. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 3, 2003 Wow, i'm surprised how low the ratings are here. This was delicious, lovely tart sour cherry flavours, with some earthy stinkyness, the finish is very refreshing. The mouthfeel is light, yet the flavour absolutely bursts on your tongue, i liked this better than the Duchesse De Bourgogne.
