This is is average, as are most all fo the ones I’ve had, yet I like them all. I guess a 3.7 total average, and 3.9 for me isn’t excatly an average beer.
Anywoo. What a great beer. Very much apples, first and foremost. A lot of oaken flavors. Lots of deliciousl sour notes.
Man do I like! ShawnMalloy (120), Auburn, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Pours a dark amber with a red tinge. Nice big white head. Fruity aroma. Taste is sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet. Reminiscent of plums, grapes, and black cherry. Definitely tart towards the finish. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Bottle at Monk’s in Philly. Pours a cloudy amber into the tulip glass with a huge fluffy, white head. Scents of sour apples, cherries and vinegar. Very sour, puckering taste. Very refreshing with hints of malt, hops and sour apples. A very nice sour beer. thewolf (5827), Kolding, Denmark
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Bottle, bought @ Havnens Vin & Tobak, Vejle. Pours a nice red-brown with a great, creamy beige head. Aroma is funky, some barnyard, light berries and caramel. Light and lively mouthfeel with just the right carbonation. Flavour is good sweet/tart with good caramel weighing up nicely to the berry-like tartness. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Best by 19 Oct 2008. Pours a standard reddish brown to amber with a healthy enough tan head, vanishing to a film relatively quickly. Lively sweet vinous nose. Oaky vanilla and substantial tartness over a surprising bit of caramel. The mouthfeel is less full and creamy than viscous and fizzy, but the effect is about the same, and the beer feels lively. Sweet sweet malt. Vinous. Caramel. The oaky vanilla is lovely, not like bourbon, but not too far off of bourbon. The lingering tannins reminds of oak. Light toast. Maybe even some corn or adjunct like flavors lending a little more sweetness. Maybe this isn’t perfect, but I enjoy this quite a bit! As it warms, more horseblanket and barnyard pops out. And I like it! mtoast (315), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 19, 2008 33cL bottle, no bbe date, hell, not US warning even, bootlegged?.
Pours deep red, almost brown, big fluffy tan head fades to a thin ring with time leaving some sexy lace upon my Chouffe tulip.
Mildly tart nose with some strange butterness in there also, not over the top butter, but enough to notice.
Very balanced Flemish Red/Brown, never really takes it to far in any direction, mild sourness with some more butter. wj94 (64), Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 17, 2008 Dark brown with some red highlighting, more on the fruity side than the sour side of the spectrum. Not much of that sour bite that I love, but tastes of cherries, vanilla, oak. Smooth palate, almost buttery like a rich Chardonnay. Pretty good, but wouldn’t pay $4/bottle again. jefcon (1009), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 16, 2008 A good sour ale that has the vanilla, buttery texture and taste of oak. A nice combination, given the tartness of the fruit and the rich nature of the yeast. Long on the palate and nearly velvety -- a different but pleasing combination for a sour ale. Really good stuff.
