Aroma is somewhat vinegary, some notes of cherries, oak, bready malt and red wine. Very similar in flavor to the Duchess, but with more acidity and a more lingering sourness. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 3, 2007 bottled. Brilliantly clear red brown with gold edges. Thick but unstable cream colored head that coats the inside of the glass. Aroma of red-wine vinegar, dried cherries, wood, slight citrus, and a faint butteriness. Light body that is quickly carried throuh your mouth with a lively display of sour dark fruits, acid bite, and sweetness. There is an impression of both caramel malts, and possibly caramelized sugars. There is actually quite a bit of sweetness in the middle. There is also a certain amount of silkiness in the mouthfeel that gets blasted apart by the somewhat strong carbonation. Overall a nice mouthwatering example of the style. Personally, I was slightly disapointed in this beer. There was a little too much of a candy sweetness in the back. Darkover (1314), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2007 Dark ruby color with a small tan head. Aroma of sweet and sour cherries. Flavor of sour cherries and some sweet malts. Pretty sour, but not excessivly so(No watery eyes and puckered lips). Also pretty drinkable for a sour ale. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2007 Dark reddish-brown body, nice reddish-tan head, sourish nose with vinegar and cherries. Not terribly sour, complex with fruits and a hint of oak. Nicely done. WISEGUY572 (1246), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2007 Reddish brown, very drak, and yet crystal clear. Foamy frothy head. Beautiful. Nose of a Belgian sour, with strong overtones of ripe fruit, maybe strawberries. Makes me think of a Rodenbach Grand Cru. Taste is a Belgian sour, slightly lighter, great sourness, great sweetness as well ... again, makes me think of the strawberry complexity of a Rodenbach. Mouth is surprisingly ligh, and this is, indeed, a low alcohol Grand Cru. Extra point on the overall rating for getting this much flavor and complexity into a relatively low alcohol beer. mkofron (155), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 24, 2007 Reddish brown in color. Tastes of cherry and vinegar. Strength of vinegar distracting making me question whether I have a bad bottle. Need to re-rate after finding another sample. TChrome (1299), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 22, 2007 Beer pours dark reddish brown with a beige colored head that somewhat dissipates. Aroma is really nice with lots of cherries and vinegar and wet wood. Mouthfeel is very nice, lively carbonation, yet very soft. Flavors of cherries, moderately sour and wet wood. Finish is dry and and carbonated like ginger ale. Quite an enjoyable beverage. omhper (12236), Stockholm, Sweden
