The aroma and taste is sour/sweet from vinegar/oak and cherries. Easy to taste that this is from the same brewery as Duchesse de bourgogne. Great! marcus (1896), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2006 This dark brown ale poured with a modest pinkish tan head. The initial flavor is sweet and fruity (cherry) with a malty finish. A sweet version of sour brown ale. It is obvious that great care was taken to ensure that this complex ale is an authentic oud bruin. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2006 Bottle from Beers of Europe. In a snifter. Reddy brown with a thin white head. Extremely fruity aroma, sweet with wood and malt vinegar. To taste this is extremely sweet, almost oversweet with heavy woody character, is rather tart and sour with notes of sherbet, cider and vomit. A touch of astringency. This is too sweet for my taste and the oak character is overdone and verges on sickly. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2006 Pours a nice dark clear crimson. Lots of carbonation, head is very small and fizzy. Vinous aroma, cherries and maybe some oak in there too. Taste begins innocently with a round fruitiness, of course highlighted by cherries. Oaken notes take a background role, could use slightly more. Somewhat mild acidity compared to La and Panil. Light yeastiness leaves a nice raw touch to the flavor, nice. Finish is tart, light puckering, lingering fruity sweetness. Slight metallics. Overall, needs to be just a touch more acidic and less fruity. Still a fine example of the style. Aroma of fruit, spices, some sourness, and wood. Flavor is sweet, fruit and a tart sour finish. NewCastle1 (59), Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 23, 2006 Bottle. Very large off white head that lingers for the whole beer. Nice lacing all the way down the glass. Aromo is of sour cherries, malts, slightly metallic as well. Very smooth. Nice sour bite. But not to the point of being bitter. Sour cherries, slight green apple, some malts and just a slight taste of yeast as well. For my first Flemish Sour. I was very impressed. Thanks to Brennan at Kahn’s Fine Wines for selecting this for me. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Apr 18, 2006 Pours a thin head, lightly carbonated. Full nose of cider and strawberries. Reminds me of some sparkling meads my wife has made. Clear bronze/brown. Hot, sour and cidery on the tongue. Tart like a Granny Smith apple, with a slight lingering flavor where the oak and chesnut malts come through. Some off flavors in there (metallic), but my bottle was 5 months past the "best by" date. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2006 Bottle from Delirium Cafe: this beer was substituted for the Pannepot I ordered but alas, they didn’t have it in stock. Nevertheless, this was a pretty nice beer. Poured clear red brown with a medium beige head. Moderate vinegar, cherry aroma. Mild sweetness from cherries. Lightly sour and sweet with a bit of metal. Pretty good beer.
