Nov 12, 2005 This beer is a very dark reddish amber with a thick off-white head, nice lacing, active carbonation and a medium mouth-feel. Aromas include: balsamic vinegar, copper and berries. The flavor is tasty tail-wagging sweet. It’s very light and quite drinkable. The finish is short and maintains it’s pleasant sweetness throughout. Yum!

Nov 7, 2005 Updated: Nov 24, 2005Im strating to really like these flemish ales now,its like something u need to train yourself up on, like there has to be some hard grind through some stuff that you narurally dont like, in my case sour things, to appreciate them. Aroma is excellent red wine vinigar and some balsalmic notes too. Taste is not as sour as expected, but very well balanced with the sweetness, excellent flemish fellow, which ill have to get again soon.

Oct 23, 2005 mmmh - yummie - this is my Flemish sour ale! Nice deep red color with a rocky head - with a huge cylinder in the middle. Great Modena Balsamico Nose - medium intense. Spicy fruit taste in the beginning which lingers down smoothly with a soft balsamico and slightly sour taste - round!

Oct 23, 2005 Bottle: Reddish amber coloured, beige fluffy head; complex nose: iron-oxide, fruits, caramel, some sourness and a tinge of "barrique" and "balsamico"....;starts sweet and malty; light sweet-sour flavour; ending is dryer and slightly sour, but not so adstringent and only a little bit tart; a sweet but pleasant Flemish Sour Ale, well balanced and not so sharp as other examples of this style.

Sep 28, 2005 Dark red with brunette highlights, with a diminutive ring of lace.
A little less balsamic that duchesse de bourgogne, the oaky, vanilla vapors come through nicely in the nose, followed by a sweetness that reminded me of white chocolate.
Less acidic than most flemish sours I’ve had before, but with a stronger bite in the end. Sounds a little contradictory, but that how it tasted to me...The oak comes through nicely in the aftertaste. Like a good quality aged balsamic vinegar. I almost like it as much as Rodenbach grand cru.

Sep 25, 2005 Earthy red body covered by a fine, mostly lasting beige head. Immediately appealing acetic overtones complete a heavier than you’d expect caramel maltiess while the oak aging procures well defined echoes of oak, vanilla, tree leaves. Remaining very light in mouth, the caramel sweetness takes a bit more room than I’d expect, but the sourness balances it nicely. Not so tart, definitely not as fruity as their great echte kriek, but at 5.1%, this is quite packed with flavors, while boasting both sweetness and easiness to quaff.Truly well crafted.
