Aroma is a bit off putting - POR and veggies with some malt. Not much to write about concerning the flavour -mostly caramel malt and cane sugar - still better than the original. thehipone (197), Australia

Still has that metallic flavor, probably the dreaded PoR. A little more caramel malty flavor that the old green can, but not enough for this to pass as a proper bitter. eczematic (1198), Sydney, Australia
| 0.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 2/5 | 1/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Nov 11, 2005 this is absolutely shockingly disgusting shit. first time i had it was in vintage cellars where some hapless sales rep came up to me and offered me a taste of it in a plastic glass. when i gagged and my eyes popped out of my head she told me i was probably just not used to such a traditional tasting beer. ohh my god. rotting bananas and pawpaws sweat in a polyethylene bag. nasty, dirty POR bitterness and horrific shallow, cat-litter flavour malt. ugh. | 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Nov 7, 2005 Malt hop aroma with chemical undertones. Clear amber colour with goof head and fair lacing. Bitter malt flavour. Fizzy palate. Aarleks (404), Sydney, Australia
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Nov 3, 2005 Bottle: Crystal clear copper with a small off-white head. Pretty plain malt and hop aroma - smells like regular VB that has been brewed using more malt and hops... Plenty of mettalic notes too. Flavours are similar: Again the standard ’Australian beer’ flavour that is reallt just malt-water with that annoying leaft-green hop flavour (POR I pressume) that doesn’t actually satisfy. Lots of fine bubbled carbonation that results in a sufficiently foamy mouthfeel that most flavour is hidden. Better than the original but still only just a pass. theread (51), Wagga Wagga, Australia
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 22, 2005 This is more malty and far less gassy than the current VB ( or vomitous brew) as I am want to call it.
I had heard of it being about but I didn’t get to try it for months before it came to Wagga.
A pale imitation of what an ale should be and it is not bitter, though I think CUB may have found some real hops and barley for this one. Too expensive for what it is, but far superior to the green bile can that is so, so popular for whatever reason. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Oct 2, 2005 Copper with a white head. Mild earthy stale hop aroma. Some sugary notes there. Bit bland, astringent malts with an earthy finish. A bit thin, but actually drinkable.
