After a hike from the University up to the top of black mountain, I was in the mood for a beer and this was the best that they seemed to have to offer up in the cafe atop the needle. (Not that I could complain - I was very happy to discover that indeed they had beer at all.) Yeahm this was a pretty bland pale lager, maybe a bit more crisp than some US alternatives....but a bland fizzy pale lager.

| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 4, 2008 VB is a real thirst quencher, best experienced on a hot day. I recently bought some on a wintery night and the taste left a lot to be desired.
Still, it is cheap to buy VB in NZ. GRM (1280), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada

Light sweet malty, some lemony hoppiness and rice. Watery, low bitterness. beer4me (8), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada does not count | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 4, 2008 I will stick my neck out here and come to a bit of a defense of poor old VB. Firsty, "bitter" has a different meaning in Australia. Bitter is a lager in Oz and not a hoppy ale. These types of beers don’t seem to transplant well to countries with cooler climates. Fiji Bitter, Indonesia’s Bintang and Australia’s VB are incredibly suited for the countries where they originate. Nothing like a cold VB on a hot Australian day.
Yes, the beer snob in me knows that they are not technically "great beers" but I still have a soft spot for VB. Cheers mate!
