Commercial Description:
Exhibiting a deep, chestnut color and malty aroma All Malt Dark Lager is a very inviting beer. Mildly malty, with little lingering sweetness to note, Dark Lager is surprisingly refreshing. This is beer as it was meant to be, firm and satisfying. Seasonal specialty available January - April on draft.

Dark caramel brown, cleary body with thin tan ringing head. Sweet chocolate, malt aroma. Sweet malty flavor reminiscent of a Munich dunkel. Very similar to the Munich Hofbrauhaus dunkel in fact. Medium palate.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with hopdog, thanks Steve!) I guess I always expect great things from Victory, but I’m a little underwhelmed by this boring beer. Toasty malts, mildly bitter and hoppy, and minimally sweet, there’s just not much here, and the dark malt all but disappears in the "lagerish" finish. It’s kind of like drinking slightly sweetened iced tea. Lightly toasty and malty nose isn’t very aromatic. Medium bodied when first sipped, but the finish is pretty watery. Orange-brown color isn’t the prettiest, and the small light tan head fades to the tiniest of rings. I’d been trying to get my hands on this beer for years, but I feel like I’ve been missing anything during my pursuit. Bland and boring.

An orange beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, and the flavor besides the caramel also have some roasted notes, leading to a dry end. Boring.

Best before Aug. 15, sampled September 18. I have waited to try this for years and was happy to find that it was even better than I had anticipated. Big sweet malt which came into focus and dried out perfectly with a little hop spice, a malty crack and even a bit of acidic snap. Reminds me a lot of Victory’s old All-Malt Dortmunder, actually, just a shade darker in appearance and in malt character. A new favorite.

Had this at the Flour City Brew Fest. Very dark with a decent head. Very creamy malty mouthfeel. I enjoyed this beer.

Finally a dunkel I love.Deep authentic bavarian notes abound. As my glass has sat finished for about five minutes. It smells like a really good salty pretzel.
