Mar 14, 2008 Pours a dark but transparent mahogany brown color with a small, foamy, tan head. Minimal sudsy lacing noted. Aromas were very malty, with dark roasted caramel, nougat, chocolate, figs, and some dry, earthy hops all coming through. Flavors were again malt dominant, but there is a decent amount of balancing hop bitterness. Tastes very chewy, earthy, and slightly roasty. Medium bodied and smooth, but feeling a little weak for the style. Very rich. Solid brew, for sure, but not near the upper echelon of Baltics. I’d like to try this one side by side with its predecessor.

Mar 14, 2008 Poured a deep, opaque black with a thin white head and a slightly watery texture. Aroma was malty and sugary, but fairly mild. Flavor is similar, strong (but not too strong) roasted malts, licorice and chocolate. Finish is a little watery. This missed the mark for me. It’s an alright porter, a weaker Baltic style porter and a little forgettable.

Mar 13, 2008 Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin coating of light tan head. Aroma of sweet sugary dark caramel malt and some raisins. Body starts fairly full and caramely with some earthy and roasted bitterness before a drier, toasty warming finish. Decently balanced, but not as good as the old Heavyweight version.

Mar 12, 2008 From bottle. Light smoky-sweet aroma, with some Twizzlers, woodchips, light alcohol vapor, and some herbal notes. A bit of chocolate. Dark brown-black clear, with thin light-tan foamy lacing head. Medium watery body with medium to light carbonation. Starts with a nice licorice-chocolate malty sweet character, with mild smoke, almost like peat. There’s some acetone character, too, with some raw sugar and light alcohol. A bit of warming. Bitterness from roasted malt and a bit of chalky hops comes in to finish, but leaving predominantly a mild coffee-chocolate coating on the tongue.

Mar 11, 2008 Bomber, thanks to TomDecapolis! Pours a translucent dark brown, mahogany at the margins, with a lacy straw-colored head. Medium body and light carbonation. Aroma and taste of brown sugar, raisins and molasses. Soft chocolaty finish.

Mar 11, 2008 Jrob_21 is quite the man for sending this. Pours brown to red with a small khaki head that eventually fades to a minute ring of foam. Aroma of cocoa, coffee, buttered toast, caramel, and a subtle bean note (pleasant). Tastes light roast, caramel, toast, coffee, O-fest sort of earthy sweet malt notes, yet pretty close to the flavor of many regular porters. Finishes with a beany roasty flavor, moderate bitterness, and black coffee flavor lingers to the aftertaste. Medium bodied, drinkable, yet very light on the tongue. A bit too light for the ABV and lighter than the Heavyweight beer. I’d say this beer comes pretty close to the Heavyweight’s flavor, but is slightly more normal and roasty (then again, the Heavyweight beer had some age on it), and lighter bodied. Decent.

Mar 11, 2008 Bomber. Dark but translucent brown with a frothy beige head. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate mostly, with a touch of coffee and raisin. Chocolate and coffee flavors you’d expect, but not as richly sweet, roasty and plummy as I can remember from the Perkuno’s Hammer. Some slight beef broth hints. Warming spiciness comes through on the finish. Decent brew, though I’d like to see more substance in body and flavor.
