Commercial Description:
While Heavyweight Brewing deserves credit for introducing the Baltic porter style to many craft beer fans, this beer from Victory represents an all new recipe fashioned on the experience of Tom's original intense brew. One noteworthy difference is the higher alcohol by volume of Baltic Thunder, 8.5% compared to Heavyweight's, which weighed in at 8%.

An additional distinction is Victory's use of black eyed peas in lieu of Roman beans. Despite these changes, this dark lager still features a reminiscent roasted character that embodies the fullness of toffee, along with subtle fruit flavors derived from its higher temperature fermentation. Long, cold aging tempers this complex beer into a well-rounded delight that warms with its significant alcohol strength. The final packaged product will be released in 25.4 fluid ounce bottles.

"The first brew of Baltic Thunder was magical. Tom and his original co-conspirator on the beer, Lew Bryson, even came here to Victory to assist. Then, while sharing a pint of Baltic Thunder off of the lagering tank a few weeks later with Tom, I swear the spirit of his departed Perkuno was smiling upon our accomplishment," continued Covaleski.

Sampled at WFB in Durham - my first brew of the day and one of my favorite. Poured a reddish brown and had a nose of sweet malt, fruit, toffee and some caramel. Nice smooth rich flavor of malt, toffee and berry. This was a great beer that I am going to try again in a greater volume than just a couple ounce tasting and very much looking forward to it.

Bottle... Poured dark brown with a red highlight and a moderate, tan head. Roasted aroma. The lager yeast was very prominent in this one. Had good roasted, nutty flavors and dark malts. An overall light, easy drinking baltic porter.

Pours dark brown with a huge beige head. Roasty nose and an even more roasted flavor. Char, toffee, and alcohol. Medium body, watery, and little carbonation. The finish lingers on and on. Not bad, not great.

Pours a dark smokey quartz brown, glimmering red in some light, just a ring of white on top. Nose is nutty with lagery yeast tones and stale-like hops. Syrupy molassis, nuts, and astringent nut skins in the finish. Authentic tasting like all those other mediocre baltic porters from balticland or whathaveyou...Compared to the Alaskan Baltic Porter I had last night, this sucks. The combination of syrupy maltiness, the harsh astringent nature of the yeast, the unwelcoming stale hoppiness..just doesnt cut it. It’s rather boozy too in a unrefined way.

poured really dark amber with a thick frothy head that was of white in color. there is some nice lacing and the head fell after about 3 minutes. it is very thick and full bodied with a magnitude of flavors through out the whole beer. it is chocolaty sweet in the begining and finishes very clean in the end. nice beer.

650 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours an opaque black color with a small beige head. The aroma is moderate in strength with burnt barley, licorice and a hint of alcohol. The taste features more burnt barley, licorice and chocolate. The palate is full and creamy. The finish is medium in duration with lingering anise. Overall: Not really to my like this one was.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a semi-opaque typically carbonated dark ruby red brown colored body. The aroma was malty and chocolate. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow malty aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of toasted malt roasted malt mildly vinous and dark malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Very fizzy, hard to discern flavor. Eventually toffee reveals itself. Nice brown appearance, but also flat looking. Burnt chocolate aroma. Bitter finish.
