Enjoyed from a 25.4oz bottle in a pub glass. The label explained that this sample should have been consumed by 12/08. Oh well. The beer pours a deep and very dark brown that borders on being black with a very slight head that quickly fades away. The aroma kicks up strong notes of Germanic malts, with an especially prevalent nod to Munich. Additionally, there is just the slightest note of roasted barely in the front end of the nose; far less than one would expect, initially. The palate is surprisingly malty rather than being roasty, as one would normally expect from the style and strength of the beer. It tastes more of an Oktoberfest or Vienna lager than a strong porter. Indeed, roasty notes are precipitously lacking. They are replaced by a very pleasing note of Munich/Vienna malts that give a warming, toffee-like character. Hops do not play a major role, other than to serve the duty of basic balancing bitterness. Alcohol is undetectable. Overall, an excellent intrepretatio of the style.

Dec 3, 2009 Bottle. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and toffee aroma. Roasted malty chocolate flavor with hints of caramel and licorice. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with some hints of licorice in the aftertaste.

Nov 28, 2009 $7.99 for 22oz. bottle / First impression is not very favorable--perhaps this has something to do with "black eyed peas" in the equation?!? Come on now, what are the fantastic people at Victory doing with black eyed peas? They don’t belong in beer and they barely belong in soup. This beer is not offensive, but hardly worth the money.

Nov 26, 2009 Served from a 22 oz bottle from Whole Foods. Appearance is a ruby brown with a nice sixed light brown head. Aromas are candy sugar, light roast malt. The flavors are similar with a dry sweetness to the mouth. A nice baltic porter.

Nov 16, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours clear mahogany with a small spotty off white head. Aroma if coffee, prunes, alcohol and chocolate. The flavor is sweet chocolate and bitter roasted grains and no alcohol taste. Medium to full body with a mild carbonation and a thick soft mouth feel. Pretty decent Baltic Porter, but there are better in my opinion. Had this at the brewery also and remembered it to be a bit better there on tap.

Nov 13, 2009 Pours brown with a disappearing tan head. The aroma is chocolate, fruit, coffee, and hints of bourbon. The flavor is slightly acidic and fruity with wood, bourbon, chocolate, nuts and caramel notes followed by a roasted finish. Kind of tasted a little like a snickers bar, only not so sweet. Pretty light bodied too.

Nov 12, 2009 Wake up and smell the Baltic Thunder. A nice chocolate aroma hits the nose and rises from black-ruby body that supports a beige, half-inch thick head. The complex flavor comprises coffee, chocolate, and tasty roasted malts. The palate is really about a 3.5 but I didn’t think the beer warranted a 3.8 rating, its nearly great but is lacking that something special. CP
