Aug 23, 2008 This beers popularity is a mystery to me. It has a very complex taste that is hard to pin down, but the lingering aftertaste isnt pleasant. The are definitely better abbey tripels out there.

Aug 22, 2008 12 ounce bottle- this beer is a mystery. I can’t figure out just how they got that monkey to piss in the bottle. The rancid smell was followed up by a rancid taste, at least it was consistent. Godawful. Can’t reconcile my score with what I see here, maybe a bad bottle?

Aug 15, 2008 Updated: Jan 14, 2009Bought a six pack of 12 ozers from Frugal MacDoogal’s in Fort Mill, SC. Poured a clear gold with a 2.5 finger white head. Aroma was very spicy. Flavor was spicy with some apples and other fruit. Alcohol was moderately warming. Medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Very complex beer.

Aug 10, 2008 750mL bottle; lots of sediment which I had been trying to settle for weeks, some escaped during pour; golden yellow with light cloudy hue; smells sweet, spicy, clovy; tastes of candi sugar, spice, complexity; nice but wish I could have settled the sediment.

Aug 9, 2008 Poured from a 750ml caged and corked bottle (bottled on Feb 22 08) and served in a tulip. This tripel poured a hazy golden hue with a lasting head of off-white foam. A bit of light lacing was left around the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of apples, clove, cinnamon, orange peel, and a hint of alcohol. The flavor consisted of spicy yeast, apples, pears, orange peel, cloves, and a slight alcohol warmth. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with ample carbonation. Crisp and refreshing. Complex and highly quaffable. Very tasty!

Aug 6, 2008 Hazy bright gold, small head. Fruity aroma. Lots of tropical fruits including custard apple but also a few orchard fruits including pear. Then nutmeg, clove. Like a fruit custard. Nice carbonation level but feels somewhat heavy. Sweet but pleasant, fun. Lots of fruit like strawberry and also spice with coriander and fennel playing together, boosted by alcohol. Not bad!

Aug 6, 2008 Bottle at Winking Lizard. Pour was a light golden color, some light carbonation going on. Aroma was sweet and citrus. Flavor was sour apples and sweet tarts. Bitter finish. Not my favorite Tripel, but decent.
