It could possibly have been spoiled but this seems highly unlikely. It was in an assortment case of other beers, all of the others of which were still quite fresh, and it had been stored properly...and these stronger bottle-conditioned ales tend not to spoil easily, so spoiling seems highly unlikely. There were a lot of different aromas...some reminiscent of a badly executed Saison, others a poorly executed wheat beer. Overwhelming but unpleasant herbal qualities. Heavy and strong, really in-your-face. Absolutely undrinkable. I poured it out. This one ties with Sam Adams Tripel Bock for the lowest possible rating.

Flavor of bubblegum, overly ripe banana, clove, and alcohol. Actually, the alcohol is way too overpowering and unsatisfying in this beer. Perhaps it is better in the bottle. Not one of my favorite tripel’s. spanky167 (14), , Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 23, 2009 This one disapointed me. Who doesn’t want to like a golden monkey? Taste was very muddy, too much going on at once. Not very layered or balanced. Think of a strong belgian tripel and have that flavor hit you all at once, no front, middle, or back. Just BAM! In yo face. ttutony (92), Texas, USA

Taste is fantastic, with a combination of yeast, citrus, spices, etc. Very well-made, an excellent American take on the classic Belgian style. drseusszb200 (215), Florida, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Bottle from Rodman’s. Pours golden with a thick white head. Tastes of candy sugar, malt, some citrus/fruit. Rather bland for the style but at a very good price, and better than many of the American tripels I’ve had.
