Commercial Description:
The radiant energy of the sun gives life to all that we enjoy. Flowing field of barley for malting, surging vines of ripening hops and even pure, clean water owe their vitality to the sun. Just as we do. So in crafting this unique, hazy orange-hued ale, we poured in nature’s great gifts of German malts and European hops to feed the dynamic yeast that we imported from Belgium. Here in the quiet tanks of Victory our yeast brought vitality to this Belgian style farmhouse ale. That energy has created impressions that range from lemon peel to black pepper, though such spices are not added. Great with a wide array of foods, count on the bright soul of Helios Ale to bring life to all of your meals!

Very pale yellow color; strong fruity aroma; gets slightly more bitter as it goes; too bubbly.

Not too much yeast. Lots of spice and citrus. Big white head, foamy and goes away a little quickly. Cloudy bright gold. Slightly metallic taste, some spice, good bitterness in the finish. Don’t like it too much. Great bubbly mouthfeel.

Slightly cloudy yellow, with a fairly sizey head. Spicy aroma, with a whiff of vanilla and sage, maybe some other herbal notes, too. Pretty tasty, with a vaguely sweet edge at first, then some spicyness. Perhaps some apple flavor as it warms. Also a bit more full bodied than I expected.

Very solid effort from Victory, whose Belgian styles have been hit or miss of late. It’s a more fruity, buttery brew than one customarily associates with saisons, but there’s enough grass and earthy stuff happening, with mild spicing, to make it all work. Big body, generous head, and in general a solid beer.

750 mL bottle, dated July 3, 2007. Pours very cloudy gold with disappearing whitish head. The aroma is oatmeal, farm, strawberry, and pork. The flavor has a zesty kick at first, then some farmy hay notes, significant amounts of earth, and a tingly hoppiness throughout. The finish is honeyish and leaves a spicy aftertaste. Prickly mouthfeel.

Bottle. 2005 vintage. Pours a thick/pulpy yellow-gold body with a white bready head. Fruity orange/citrusy aroma, syrup sweetness, and dark bread. Lots of carbonation considering the age... fruity but alas, it’s quite thin. Dusty spices and fruit character along with some alcohol. Slight papery oxidation is noted as well.
