Commercial Description:
Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words, "hoppiness is happiness." As our annual homage to the fresh hop harvest, Hop Wallop is a fragrant experience that delights the tastebuds. Pure gold of color, this ale offers its heady bounty of hops to the adventurous of taste. Bold, bracing and surprisingly refreshing for a strong (8.5% a.b.v.) ale, Hop Wallop lives up to its name and legacy.

12oz bottle. Pours clear golden orange/yellow with a pillowy white head that stays suspended in the glass. Aroma of floral hops. The hops accentuate pine and resin more than citrus. Finish is somewhat watery with a light malt backing. Drinks more like a standard IPA. Good.

Bottle, bought @ Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam.
Pours clear golden. Staying, frothy, white head. Super lacings. Lots of bubbles surching upwards. Good hoppy aroma, floral, grassy and some pine. Rather earthy as well. Light bready malts. Medium carbonation, great creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour is heavy hoppy. Light bready malts, lots of fruity, piney and lemony hops. Some slight pepper in the long, dry and very bitter finish. Very nice, but very heavy on the bittering hops. Lightly warming.

bottle. Pours a hazy golden color, nice inch of thick foam that sticks around well, lots of lacing. Nose smacks of earthy pine resins, sharp bitterness, and some floral sweetness. Flavor starts with big, aggressive bitterness, then moves into a hop profile that shows more citrus qualities than the nose suggested- sharp lemons and grapefruit. Still some of that earthy pine character as well- hop character shows some nice depth. Little if any real sweetness- some light toasted caramel, but only in the background. Definitely hops-forward. Palate is on the thick and oily side for an IPA, with some lingering bitterness. This brew is better than I remember from last time sampling... good, solid IPA.

Color is a yellow gold color with a light white head. The brew is well carbonated is quite clear. Smell is a extremely deep hop smell. There is a slight malt smell in the background to level off just slightly, the hoppieness of this brew. Taste is so full of hops it is almost blocking out the other flavors but there is also a slight pine taste. A hint of malt is in there with the wall of flavor. Very tasty and a good beer overall. It will take an unexpected pallet to really get into the flavor. I am a big fan of hops and it was still a shock to the system. Pick this beer up if you are ready to have your taste buds for a ride. Certainly a wallop! The pine is very prevalent in this beer. Citrus and grapefruit and hops are in there as well, but for me it’s the punch of pine against my tongue that brings me back to this beer. It’s not quite the same in the bottle in my opinion, but off the tap I find it sublime when I’m in the mood for a strong golden beer.

(Bottle, thanks to mybestfriend) Pours deep golden with an off-white head. The aroma is medium hoppy and near medium malty with tones of fruit candy, soft, sweet yellow fruits, apricots, passion fruit, flowers, citrus (sweet grapefruit and tangerines), toasted bread, toasted almonds, sponge cake and some cookies. The flavour is more citrus orientated with notes of oranges, tangerines and light twist of grapefruit. The malt backbone is toasted with some nuts and cookies. Undertones of fruits and perfume. The mouthfeel is round with a soft carbonation. Some alcohol is present. Light to medium sweet and medium biter. Medium to full afterbitterness. Resiny tart and earthy finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Pours a deep golden color with a small white head. Nice hoppy aroma with a slight hint of pine. Flavor starts slightly sweet then progresses into a grapefruit and pine punch. A lasting drying bitterness rounds it out. Nice and hoppy... this one is a winner.

Hop wallop indeed, Not a ton of floral or citrus notes, just a lot of bitter. Some might say too much, some would call those people wimps. Delicious and very drinkable for a double, very little of the East Coast sweetness that plagues so many DIPAs. Also, fantastic for the price, espeically in PA where its usually under 40 a case.
