Commercial Description:
Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words, "hoppiness is happiness." As our annual homage to the fresh hop harvest, Hop Wallop is a fragrant experience that delights the tastebuds. Pure gold of color, this ale offers its heady bounty of hops to the adventurous of taste. Bold, bracing and surprisingly refreshing for a strong (8.5% a.b.v.) ale, Hop Wallop lives up to its name and legacy.

12 oz bottle from Bev4less. Brass colored pour with a small white head that has fair retention. The aroma is moderate in strength with citrus and bready yeasts. The taste is more of the same with biter piney hops taking center stage, followed by citrus and barley. The mouthfeel is full and malty. The finish is medium in duration with lingering biter barley. Overall: Not much of a "hop wallop" in this one, the hops in SN’s Torpedo IPA sink this one, but still somehow I find this beer much more enjoyable.

Bottle pours a clear golden copper. Aroma is a nice strong hop with a bit more yeast or bread like notes than most other IIPA’s I’ve had. The flavor is similar to the aroma with a nice tasty hop flavor and a good amount of malt and again the bread or yeast flavor. I like this beer!

Opaque yellow pour with a medium sized off white head. Big fruit aroma with some nice pine notes topping it off. Pleasant pine and grapefruit hop meld with a small but potent caramel malt flavor. Very smooth finish, and the hops never get as out of control as you’d expect from the name. A very pleasant, if minor IIPA.

bottle, pours golden/orange with thick white head. By looking at the label, I expected a big hop bomb, instead I got an amazing IIPA. Aroma is hoppy with notes of fruits with a syrupy sugar nose and good caramel malts notes. Taste, light hops citrus at first, followed by light caramel malt notes. From the hops, I get some nice and fruit notes of grapefruit adding a nice and enjoyable bitterness. Good abv, with a spicy mouthfeel. Ends creamy. My kind of IIPA, well balanced.

Pours a hazy yellow with a moderate white head. Aroma of hops. Tastes of malt with a medium hop bitterness with citrus notes. Full-bodies. Kind of a different style of Imperial IPA. Quite good!

Aroma: Orange rind, grapefruit rind, mandarin orange, followed by sugary and bready malts. Appearance:An amber gold with a creamy 1/2 inch off white head. Leaves sudsy lace. Taste: Grapefruit, rock candy sugar, bitter hops, and more sugar. A tad bit of graininess was in the finish for me. Mouthfeel: Thin and creamy. Overall: An interesting take on an Imperial IPA. Very perfumy. Extra grainy this year (Winter 08/09)?

12 oz bottle at Trappeze in Athens, GA. Pours a dark copper-amber color with big frothy white head that it does not let go of. Nose is mostly pine hops with noticeable malt and citrus. Flavor is lots of sugary caramel, sweet malt, and a balanced hop... well... wallop that follows along. Finish lingers sweet and bitter. Very good double IPA.
