Commercial Description:
Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words, "hoppiness is happiness." As our annual homage to the fresh hop harvest, Hop Wallop is a fragrant experience that delights the tastebuds. Pure gold of color, this ale offers its heady bounty of hops to the adventurous of taste. Bold, bracing and surprisingly refreshing for a strong (8.5% a.b.v.) ale, Hop Wallop lives up to its name and legacy.

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear light golden orange with a small, white head that dissipates slowly and remains pretty lacy. Looks more like a pale ale rather than a DIPA. Aroma is very hoppy, yet very sweet. Lots of grapefruit and citrus hops with a very sweet malty backing. Flavor is straightforward with loads of citrus and pine. Very crisp and fresh hop taste as well as a nice balance of sweet caramel malts. Nice floral tone to it too. Lots of bitterness throughout and after, but not overbearing in the least bit. Really nice and tons of flavor. The palate is surprisingly easy and light for a DIPA. Finishes all the way through and drinks like a pale ale as well. Overall, Im very impressed. This is one hell of a beer. Amazing and bold tasting DIPA and extremely well balanced. Hides the alcohol extremely well. Huge fan.

Pours a cloudy light amber color with a thin white head. Oh yeah, the hops are really there. Big malt caramel body with lots of citrus and pine, just huge. Taste is big and bitter with a lot of citrus. This is a really good ipa.

On tap at Mad Mex in West Philly. Clear orange brown with a skim of white suds and lacy sheets. Nose is orange, tangerine and caramel. Medium light and resiny with moderate carb. Taste is grapefruit pith and honey with hints of basil. Nicely sweet and bitter.

Pours thin and yellow. Small head with a citrusy aroma. Flavor is of lemons and pine nuts. Very piney, interesting for an IPA. Definetely unique, although I would of liked to see more complexity. Not a bad beer, just not outstanding.

Crushed with Jakebra. Interesting DIPA. Not sure what to make of it. Hops on the nose, obviously, but some nast in there too. Incredibly malty flavor for a double. I was expecting to be knocked back by hops, but wasnt on this one. Kinda like a really hopped lager. Bottle probably isnt fresh, aight?

Poured clear gold with a quickly retreating off white head. Aroma is a blast of pine hops and a whiff of biscuity malt begging for attention. Flavor is amazingly hop forward, which is not hard to believe, but the tongue numbing extent of the hop bitterness is fairly amazing. Lots of pine and floral hops, but not much else to balance. Alcohol is the only subtle thing in here. It is a mega IPA for those who mainline hops, but lacks the other attributes it needs to be truly transcendent.

12oz bottle a few months to a year old. Pours a somewhat cloudy copper with a minimal head. Lots of malt in the aroma, but plenty of citrusy hop as well. Malt flavor up front with a piney hop back. Not bad, but is probably very good when fresh.
