Commercial Description:
Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words, "hoppiness is happiness." As our annual homage to the fresh hop harvest, Hop Wallop is a fragrant experience that delights the tastebuds. Pure gold of color, this ale offers its heady bounty of hops to the adventurous of taste. Bold, bracing and surprisingly refreshing for a strong (8.5% a.b.v.) ale, Hop Wallop lives up to its name and legacy.

Not your typical IPA. Aroma is of a sugar filled peach and mild hops. Pours a clear pale orange color with a white head. A nice taste of sweet peach, apricot and hops. Very nicely balanced. Bitter finish. Would drink again.

12 oz bottle: poured golden yellow with a thick cream colored head. Citrus hop aroma and slightly floral. Flavor is big citrusy hops. Well-carbonated, moderately sweet initially with big bitterness in the finish, Good head retention and lacing on my glass. Aside from the color, I am more used to a deeper orange color, this is a fine beer.

A slightly translucent golden color with a 1-finger thick frothy white head. A good bit of lacing from this beer. The aroma is a sticky apricot and clover honey with some dank, earthy notes. The hops in the flavor don’t hit you in the face right away. The first thing I get is the sweetness of honey and some some peach notes. The hops really shine in the finish. A good lasting bitter flavor. A lot of floral. There is a strange wet dog undertone, but maybe this is just an older bottle. Pretty solid.

Light coppery color with a white head that leaves thick lacing. Fruity hops aroma. Taste is really bitter and really hoppy, but not too hoppy I don’t think. It really strives to be a super hoppy beer, but it succeeds in ways which other doubles don’t I think. Semi-sweet fruitiness. Almost peppery taste, but mostly a lot of hops.

A very lightly hazy, golden-orange body is crowned with a huge, rocky, off-white head that shows good retention. Thick cobwebs of lacing cling to the glass like interwoven, overgrown vines on a wall. The nose shows sharp tangerine and grapefruit hops amidst a relatively light, but still sweet, toffee malt background. The flavor again shows bold, bitter citrus hops, and sweet, buttery toffee. Its pretty well balanced, leaning towards the bitter, hoppy side of things. The creamy mouthfeel is smooth up front, finishing with biting bitterness and a lightly sticky remainder. Overall, a very nice IIPA.

Quite disappointed-- Poured light/copper, which I felt was way too light for an IPA. Color aside, the taste was awful. It was quite sour, despite a decently obvious amount of hops. Tasted like a domestic, light beer that they tried to infuse with hops. Would not recommend.

(Bottle (best by 11/26/08) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours clear, bright light amber with a small off-white head that kind of sticks around providing a very thin layer. Smells very hoppy - grapefruit and pine with some vanilla and caramel underneath. Mouthfeel is a little thin and loose, fairly sticky. Very light thin sheets of lacing melt away quickly. Flavor is quite massive bitterness with flavor of grapefruit rind and pine. The heavy hops overlay a rosewatery, sticky sweetness. Just a little more of a thick malt backbone would help this. Lingering bitter grapefruit-pine aftertaste. A good beer but a little abrasive - quite the tongue scraper!

Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours a cloudy bright hi-c orange with a small head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma of plum, pineapple and malt. Mouthfeel is nice, taste works well. Aftertaste is a bit offensive.
