Commercial Description:
Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words, "hoppiness is happiness." As our annual homage to the fresh hop harvest, Hop Wallop is a fragrant experience that delights the tastebuds. Pure gold of color, this ale offers its heady bounty of hops to the adventurous of taste. Bold, bracing and surprisingly refreshing for a strong (8.5% a.b.v.) ale, Hop Wallop lives up to its name and legacy.

I very much like this hoppy IPA. Even though the hops pack a punch, the flavor is still good and not over the top. This is the beer that made me really start to enjoy hoppy brews.

Lemon grass nose. Light amber color, clear, thick yellow head, nice lacing. Honey and lemon grass flavor with a peppery finish. Medium bodied belly warmer. Pretty nicely done, with the flavor of noble hops.

Light clear amber orange, loose lumpy whitish head with falling concentric rings of lacing. Big grapefruit mixed with pine hop aroma, lots of malt sweetness behind it, caramel, toffee. Taste is grapefruit, sweet toffee, apples, caramel, lasting bitter finish.

Clear creamy golden pour white head and lots of lacing ..nice hoppy floral citrusy aroma .. little sweet malt that gives way to a not overly hoppy taste and I had it on cask so maybe carbonation would have given it more spunk ...nice bitter spice bite in the aftertaste.... not as good as hop devil or wild devil but a good ipa from a great brewery

(Draught at Publick House, Brookline, MA) Poured yellow and hazy with medium sized and white head. Aroma of hops, alcohol and fruitiness. Medium bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Tasted of hops, alcohol, fruitiness, sweetness, bitterness and resin. Bitter and hoppy aftertaste. Despite the clear presence of alcohol still a balanced beer.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Mellow, dribble-making LYCHEE aroma straight from the bottle, and plenty of it. Pours bright golden with a tireless Duvel-like effervescence totally at home in the Super des Fagnes goldfish bowl. Hops wrestling with the alcohol on the pour; grapefruit, white grape, fizz and toffee malts breaking through. Immediate alcohol burn, soap, husky malts, marmalade, pine, more astringency and heat than the tropical pithiness promised by the aroma. Try saying that after a couple of pints. Carbonation soon burns itself out. Tasty, but doesn’t feel like it’s got the hop and malt substance to carry the alcohol. A bit harsh and empty. More of a jab than a wallop.

Pours dark golden color with white head. Big grapefruit and pine hop aromas. Bitter grapefruit rind flavor with a hint of malt sweetness. Medium body with lively carbonation and a resinous mouthfeel.
