Commercial Description:
Horace ‘Hop’ Wallop headed West a broken man. For it was a certain Miss LuLubelle Lager that had left him, thirsting for more. Drawn by wild tales of the riches of the gold mines, Hop pressed on westward. His last nickel spent on a prospecting pan, Hop's hunger and thirst got the best of him. Two fistfuls o' barley and three of some wild and wayward hops tossed in the pan with some clear water was to be his meal. But sleep overcame him and he woke to a bubbling, cacophonous concoction. Overjoyed with the beautiful ale that he had made, Hop realized the secret of the 'green gold' he had discovered in those fresh hops. Celebrated far and wide, Hop Wallop lives on in this vivid ale with his words, "hoppiness is happiness." As our annual homage to the fresh hop harvest, Hop Wallop is a fragrant experience that delights the tastebuds. Pure gold of color, this ale offers its heady bounty of hops to the adventurous of taste. Bold, bracing and surprisingly refreshing for a strong (8.5% a.b.v.) ale, Hop Wallop lives up to its name and legacy.

12oz. bottle. Pours a hazy yellow-orange with white head. Light carbonation. Aroma consists of red grapefruit and some malt sweetness and juniper. Flavor is all hops. As other reviewers have stated, the citrus/grapefruit hops come through first followed by the more floral ones. Finish is grapefruit bitter, crisp. Dry aftertaste. Medium bodied.

Pours a nice goldenrod color with a perfect 2.5 finger head. The foam is very sticky on the glass and the retention is spectacular. Aroma is of pungent tart grapefruit, some lemon tanginess, and a hint of malt sweetness. A sip reveals the inevitable: this is a hop bomb. The citrus hops come out first, with faint toasty malt sweetness in the middle, and a wonderfully bitter finish. Smooth, crisp, dry finish. Medium bodied, nice dense fine carbonation.

Bottle. Pours cloudy orange with an off white head. Hoppy nose with notes of pine, floral hops, and grapefruit. Medium body. Flavor is citrus and floral hops with notes of grapefruit, leading to a dry and bitter finish. A great one for all the hop lovers out there.

Bottle. Pours deep orange toward red, moderate but lingering head. The aroma is grassy and grainier than expected, some citrus and pine as well. Ditto the flavor; not a kick-out-your-teeth West Coast resin bomb, which is actually somewhat appreciated tonight, but neither is it that good. Too grainy, like a baltic strong lager. Mildly sour, decent hop bite on the close. Not sticky, particularly, but dfinitely warming; I can feel the 8.5% for sure. Perfectly good beer for drinking with dinner, but not a standout.

Deep golden in color. The nose is filled with citric and piney hops with some caramel and spice. The palate shows dry, bitter hops throughout. The palate has some weight and richness but remains dry from the hops. This is definitely a dry hopped beer that would be great with a hamburger.

draft at O’Brien’s - This one was the third one I tried on double IPA night. It also had an excellent hop rich aroma. The flavor was dominated by the citrus hops but also had a decent balance. Medium bodied and enjoyable, it finished with another long pleasantly bitter one. Having three good, strong, hop heavy beers back to back, it’s hard to pick the best, but I’d have to go with Poor Man’s.

A denser herb carried floral aroma with medium white head. A milky copper color and a slightly soft body. Bright citrus hops flavors with a long finish. This beer is all about the hoppy bitter characters of beer. Good beer.
