The strong aroma was hoppy and dirty sock. The thick mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of hops and caramel. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. williamherbert (475), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2009 Massive pine oil and oak aromas, bitter and flowery. Toasted Bavarian malts. Bittersweet.
Appearance is a surprising straw yellow. Nice frothy head. Thin sheet of lace. Color is weak, but the head/lace is nice.
Hops totally overwhelm the flavor, but as it warms up, those German malts rise up to meet the challenge. The hops are extreme but ultimately balanced. Major bite in the aftertaste.
The feel is thick and rich; creamy and not bubbly, praise Jesus. Overall it’s unbelievably hoppy, but does ultimately offer some balance. yobdoog (1543), Woodridge NY, New York, USA

Very strong in body, taste and hops and alcohol. Some pine and citrus and very slick mouthfeel. ben4321 (1061), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Part of the Gotham Cask Festival
Aroma: Nice hoppy nose of grapefruit, citrus, and a bit of a woodiness to it as well
Appearance: Clear golden color
Flavor: Relatively balanced, nice bitter, grapefruit hoppiness, some oak/vanilla flavor, and a little crystal malts too
Palate: Medium body, nice mouthfeel, very smooth, a bit of an alcohol bite in there too
Overall Impression:
I know I’ve had this beer before, but I’ve never rated it, so drinking it on cask is as good a time as any. I swung by Swift the day after the Cask festival ended, and this was the last thing they had left on Cask. Quit a nice beer, and the cask treatment seems to have done this one well. Pretty much what I remembered, plus just a little bit of oak thrown in. A really nice DIPA that worked quite nicely on cask!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 13, 2009 [355ml bottle from Tuckers Maltings, Newton Abbott] My first ever big DIPA outside of a theme park (ho ho). Pours a pale, fizzy-looking gold with a good, lasting creamy head. Strangely there’s little fizz in the mouth, which is fine by me. Lovely fresh hoppy, sweet pine aroma. Tastes of lime, white pepper and pine. Was expecting it to be horribly bitter; it is slightly (although not much) more bitter than I like, but this is necessary to cut through the rather syrupy mouthfeel. Leaves a prolonged a delicious hoppy aftertaste. I must admit, I wasn’t expecting to like this style; I only bought this beer so I could say at least I’ve tried a DIPA. Having tried it, I’m quite intrigued and would like to try more. So, a successful beer I reckon! petematte46 (228), Dallas, Texas, USA

The real ale version of this rally brought out its beauty. Fabulous nose of sweet honey malts, muscat, lemon, and super complex hops. Great honey and caramel malt flavor, with just a touch of butter and huge hops all the way through: floral and delicious with a good bitter burn. Smooth as silk. This was wonderful. mspindler (352), Alta Loma, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 6, 2009 Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a clear blonde color with a decent sized off white head. Aroma is fresh fruits like pears and a good deal of citrus. Flavor is both very bitter and sweet with some honey, citrus and more of those fresh fruits. Medium to full bodied with surprisingly low carbonation.
