| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2009 Bottle shared with the woody’s staff. Pours a very clear amber with not much head. Flavor is decidedly leaning toward the spicy floral piney hops, but has lots of caramel malts to lend some balance. Solid bitter finish. You know you just drank an IPA. Cool label and name. drjay44 (816), Salida, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, lasting head, over a clear, dark golden (SRM 10-15) body.....nose is primarily citrus (grapefruit), with some light pine.....taste starts with a bit of sweet malt but rapidly turns to grapefruit hops which dominate and really linger. Mouth feel is pleasant, carbonation medium. This was not nearly as complex, or layered as I had hoped. A slightly better than average but certainly not outstanding IPA. | 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jun 6, 2009 Picked up this beer on a recent trip to SoCal and Hi-Times. Amazing store. The beer pours out a dark amber color, almost the color of a dark iced tea. Minimal head on the pour and basically zero retention. Body is mostly hazy with some light carbonation rising to the top. The beer’s arrival is strangely dark for an IPA. Aroma is lightly smokey, like burnt pumpkins or burnt leaves. I waited for the hop aroma to come out and there was nothing there. After it warmed up a bit some sour milk came out and cheese. I was actually diggin’ the burnt pumpkin angle, but shouldn’t be there for an IPA.
The flavor has some cedar character to it, some vegetal bitterness, soap with some mild sweetness. Hops see rather unrefined.
Not sure exactly how long this beer was sitting at Hi-Times, but it was in the cooler in a 6-pack. No date on the bottle. Perhaps an old bottle? Blech. bluemooner (237), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2009 Pours a cloudy orange with a medium, fluffy, white head. Medium body and aroma of hops and citrus. Tastes of hops, pine, citrus, peach, and cedar with a dry, bitter finish. Very good overall.
