Flavor is not as complex as I was expecting. Not much bitterness, not much sweetness, definite session beer, semi-dry finish. Decent. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 14, 2009 There pines and grapefruit in the aroma and the taste is nicely bitter and malty, the finish is dry. Very sessionable stuff and I simply love to taste a dry hop bomb for a change. maxa9 (20), , Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Bad bottle? Very little aroma. Nothing that has been described before...no citrus, no pine, no floral. It looks like a great beer in my snifter. The flavor is very bitter. The palate is way too light and crisp. Too much carbonation. I’m not biased against east coast IPAs, either - love dogfish head 90. Still its good beer, and if you lined up 12 Coronas and 1 of these...I’d take the Hop Devil in a flash. craftycarl21 (575), South Hero, Vermont, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 13, 2009 pours a dark amber with lots of carbonation and a small white frothy head. Aroma has piney and floral hops, with malt and caramel as well. Flavor is really nice- hop character is really dark and nice, not like most IPAs. Very tasty beer. brewski519 (432), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Pours an amber color with a nice white head. Aroma of pine, hops, grapefruit and flowers. Taste is exactly what you would expect from the aroma - with a nice mouthfeel and perfect carbonation. Great IPA - very, very drinkable. ben4321 (1041), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 4/13/09, not my first one of these, but I’m re-rating based on this tasting, as I didn’t have a good rating from before
Aroma: Mostly pine, some Citrus hops too
Appearance: Clearish orange-amber color, decent amount of head, and some decent lacing
Flavor: Very hoppy, not overly bitter as some have said, it’s an IPA, it’s got some hops
Palate: Nice mouthfeel, medium body, long lasting finish
Overall Impression:
This seems to be one of those beers that non-hop lovers will like disparage. It’s really quite good though. It’s not too balanced, but who says beers need to be balanced? I don’t mind when the err on the side of hops! A nice hop ale. A crisp, drinkable IPA with a strong hop presence.
