Pours a deep amber with a great thick and foamy off-white head. The aroma is full of very nice pine hops and caramel malts. The taste is not an aggressive hop bomb (or devil in this case), but is instead well balanced between a very rich caramel malt and a mildly bitter hop presence. Some grapefruit and citrus flavors in there along with a mild bitterness. Another great beer from the Keystone State. HonkeyBra (1357), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 14, 2008 Dark yellow-orange pour. Aroma is spicey hops and some fruit. Taste is caramel malt with bittering hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. I guess if you’re looking for a sessionable IPA, and not a big fan of bigger and more bitter brews, this might be your bag. 12many (231), Ohio, USA

It’s got a slightly bitter finish. One of my favorite IPA’s to drink because it isn’t overpowering. tylerss20 (101), New Hampshire, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 13, 2008 I would say the aroma is the strength of this beer. Tried at Julio’s massive beer tasting 6/1/08. Dark yellow-orange pour, whitish crown. Smell is rich with pine, citrus and slightly candied hop notes. Spice as well. Taste and mouthfeel are about what you would expect, some bitterness, a bit orangey. Pretty smooth for its hop presence, and certainly not the harshest IPA around. Overall very good, but check out Stone ruination and Longtrail unfiltered for my favorite IPA’s. hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 10, 2008 bottle. pours a clear red amber, with a reasonable off-white head that sticks around long enough, and leaves a decent lacing on its way down. mmm a wonderful bouquet of hops, just what you would expect from a beer called "hop devil", but that’s not what always stood out to me with this beer. sure the nose is dominated by a wonderful pine tree and grapefruit hop, and even throws in a bit of spicy hops for good measure, and sure those hops smell amazing, and remind me of the best ipas, but it’s the malt that i always found amazed me about this beer. it’s a wonderful spicy bread malt, almost rye, and it just creates a superb balance. it’s the cerebellum to the hops’ cerebrum. sure it’s the cerebrum that makes us human and makes us stand out from the rest of the creatures on this planet, but it’s the cerebellum that keeps our heart going and our lungs breathing and our nerves feeling. at any rate, i’ve gone and lost myself, so let’s pick back up. very much the same in the taste, with wonderful american hops dominating, but with a perfect balance of malt, this time turning a bit nuttier than that spicy bread from the smell. also just the slightest hint of fruity esters. moderate to heavy bitter finish, but never sharp, and always pleasurable. coating, resinous, creamy mouth, enough carbonation to keep it lively, and just the right body for an ipa. if you can’t tell, this is one of my favorite ipas, and is almost up there with celebration in terms of its history with me. i could certainly drink this all day and be happy. ok, i’m gushing now. sorry. It is in my kegorator right now, and I’m not very happy. It is not as sweet as it used to be, it smells and tastes a little of barf, sorry but it does, and it is bitter without tasting like hops. Wish I hadn’t paid the $165 for the keg. The only redeeming quality is that it seems to be smoothing out with age, but maybe I’m just getting used to it. wmubronco1992 (188), Coldwater, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 7, 2008 Bottle - Light Amber color. Small white head with good retention. Serious hop flavor. Bitter, heavy on the grapefruit taste. Extremely dry finish. Gread mouthfeel. More woodsy then grassy. Sticks with you for awhile. Just happened to see a six pack of this gem when I was wondering through a World Market strore. Great beer. I highly recommend.
