Victory Moonglow Weizenbock

This is a more tame, rebottled Golden Monkey, which isnt a bad thing. Very spicy orange/brown color and taste, a downturned citrus flavor, possibly cloves that is carried blatantly and possibly proudly by alcohol, an odd vibration of sweetness and tartness.

12 oz. bottle. Pours hazy dark amber and features a tight, creamy light tan head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma is yeasty and malty sweet with lots of soft banana and clove notes. Flavor is softly tart and quite spicy with a solid malt backbone. Medium bodied and fairly smooth, highly carbonated. Wow - this is 8.7%? No clue...barely warming (although I am feeling the effects)! Surprisingly nice and works great as a fall seasonal what with all the nicely balanced malt and spice.

12oz bottle. Pours a very cloudy, orangey brown with caramel-toffee-colored highlights and a thick, light tan head that fades quickly, though not completely, and leaves a thick swath of lace on the glass. The aroma is very doughy and yeasty with notes of banana and wheat. The flavor starts bready with some toasty melanoidins. Soft fruit, dark caramel, chocolate, and spices emerge next. At mid-palate, the spicy esters accentuate a spicy hop bitterness - a little more bitter than I expected for this style, but definitely pleasant. The finish is unexpectedly dry with a very subtle warming alcohol, spicy esters, fruity and spicy hop bitterness, and fresh baked bread. The mouthfeel is highly carbonated - brisk and a bit spritzy with lots of carbonation sting on the tongue (further accentuates spicy esters and finishing bitterness). After swirling around in the mouth, loads of gas are released and a thick and yeasty/slippery body is unveiled. Overall, a very decent and well-put-together weizenbock... but nothing really special (other than the fact that weizenbock is not a widely produced style). Alcohol is deftly hidden.

On tap at Jerry’s. Dark caramel with big, creamy tan head / Dark fruit & caramel nose / Full bodied, sweet & malty, with long finish. Alcohol well masked / Flavors of dates, bananas, apples, bread, caramel, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg / Outstanding.

Nice slightly hazy pour with a moderate to small head. Brown pour with a nice spice and malt aroma. Flavors of ripe dark fruit and bananas, but the heavy clove spiciness is a bit over powering. It has a good mouth feel and a nice body. Lots of malt, yet it is not really a full bodied beer. Enjoyable, but I feel the spice is a bit over the top. Another good Victory ale.

Bottle. Pours deep, unclear, orange amber with a beige head. The aroma is fruity apple/banana, with clove and nutmeg. The flavor is well balanced with spicy clove notes and fruity banana. Very good.

Bottle poured into a glass. This beer suprised me. It has the victory taste which is a good thing but overall I definitely enjoyed it. Its hard to compare because I have delved into this family of beers but am looking forward to trying to others.

Bottle. Pours cloudy deep orange with a purplish reddish hue. Foamy off white head with good retention. Fruity, spicy (mostly clove), and yeasty wheat aromas. Notes of bananas, toasted banana bread, and some slightly dusty earthiness. Probably the wheatiest (grainiest-tasting) wheat beer I’ve had. Definitely different from something like Schneider Aventinus, but still quite good.
